Association Between Thyrotoxicosis and Cerebral Venous Thrombosis.

Thyrotoxicosis appears to be a predisposing factor for cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT), which is a rare but important cause of stroke in young adults. The presentation of CVT is highly variable, ranging from a history of headaches (in the majority of cases) to deep coma, with the latter requiring invasive neurosurgical decompression. Although the long-term outcomes of CVT are favorable, multicenter cohort studies have shown that death may occur in up to 4% of cases in the acute phase and 8-10% of cases in the long term.

Indeed, they were simultaneously faced with the normative tasks of their age and stressors associated with the long-lasting COVID-19 pandemic. This study offers further insights into the perceptions of the well-being (stress, anxiety, and depression) and social bonds in young Italian adults during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Provider prescription of hydroxyurea in youth and adults with sickle cell disease: A review of prescription barriers and facilitators.

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited red blood cell disorder associated with frequent painful events and organ damage. Hydroxyurea (HU) is the recommended evidence-based treatment of SCD. However, among patients eligible for HU, prescription rates are low.

Purpose: Chronic pruritus significantly impairs hemodialysis patients' health status and quality of life (QOL) and it is associated with higher mortality rate, more frequent hospitalizations, poorer dialysis and medication adherence, and deteriorated mental status. However, pruritus is still underestimated, underdiagnosed, and undertreated in the real-life clinical scenario. UV photoreaction pathways of acetylacetaldehyde trapped in cryogenic matrices.

The broadband UV photochemistry kinetics of acetylacetaldehyde, the hybrid form between malonaldehyde and acetylacetone (the two other most simple molecules exhibiting an intramolecular proton transfer), trapped in four cryogenic matrices, neon, nitrogen, argon, and xenon, has been followed by FTIR and UV spectroscopy. After deposition, only the two chelated forms are observed while they isomerize upon UV irradiation toward nonchelated species. From previous UV irradiation effects, we have already identified several nonchelated isomers, capable, in turn, of isomerizing and fragmenting; even fragmentation seems to be most unlikely due to cryogenic cages confinement.

Policy-capturing (PC) methodologies have been employed to study decision-making, and to assess how decision-makers use available information when asked to evaluate hypothetical situations. An important assumption of the PC techniques is that respondents develop cognitive models to help them efficiently process the many information cues provided while reviewing a large number of decision scenarios. With this study, we seek to analyze the process of answering a PC study.

Parental Perceptions of the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Sleep of Children With Neurodevelopmental Disorders.

Introduction: Little is known about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on sleep in schoolaged children with neurodevelopmental disorders. This study aimed to (1) determine and describe the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and (2) identify and describe contributing factors.
