Objective: Surgical management of head and neck cancer (HNC) can result in significant functional deficits. Large tumors of the oral cavity may require extensive resection and the need for microvascular free-flap reconstruction involving the use of adynamic tissue. This may result in oral incompetence, drooling, and unsatisfactory esthetic outcomes.

RAS proteins regulate cell division, differentiation, and apoptosis through multiple downstream effector pathways. Oncogenic RAS variants are the commonest drivers in cancers; however, they also drive many benign lesions predisposing to malignancy, such as melanocytic nevi, thyroid nodules, and colonic polyps. Reversal of these benign lesions could reduce cancer incidence; however, the effects of oncogenic RAS have been notoriously difficult to target with downstream pathway inhibitors.

Effective menopausal care constitutes a continuum of symptom management and optimization of medical health, including cardiovascular, bone, and mental health. Menopausal knowledge and prescribing patterns changed significantly after the publication of the Women's Health Initiative. A systematic review was conducted to address three key questions about disparities in menopausal care: 1) What differences in menopausal care are experienced by specific populations? 2) What disparities are there in access to preventive care and symptomatic treatment? 3) What interventions reduce disparities in menopause management? PubMed, PsychInfo, SCOPUS, and EMBASE were queried to identify relevant articles published in the United States between 2002 and 2023.

The histone lysine demethylase KDM5B is implicated in recessive intellectual disability disorders, and heterozygous, protein-truncating variants in are associated with reduced cognitive function in the population. The KDM5 family of lysine demethylases has developmental and homeostatic functions in the brain, some of which appear to be independent of lysine demethylase activity. To determine the functions of KDM5B in hippocampus-dependent learning and memory, we first studied male and female mice homozygous for a allele that lacks demethylase activity.

Background: There is a lack of consensus regarding the effectiveness of salivary bypass tubes during total pharyngectomy reconstruction to prevent pharyngocutaneous fistula or pharyngoesophageal stricture.

Methods: Our study examined tubed free flap reconstruction outcomes for total pharyngectomy defects over 11 years at a single tertiary referral center. We compared postoperative fistula and stricture rates between two groups: those with salivary bypass tubes inserted during reconstruction and those without.

Purpose: Despite aggressive multimodal treatment that typically includes definitive or adjuvant radiation therapy (RT), locoregional recurrence rates approach 50% for patients with locally advanced human papillomavirus (HPV)-negative head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Thus, more effective therapeutics are needed to improve patient outcomes. We evaluated the radiosensitizing effects of ataxia telangiectasia and RAD3-related (ATR) inhibitor (ATRi) BAY 1895344 in preclinical models of HNSCC.

Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) is a leading cause of disease in feedlot and stocker calves with () as one of the most common etiologies. One of the most effective means of controlling BRD is through metaphylaxis, which involves administering antimicrobials to all animals at high risk of developing BRD. However, increasing prevalence of multidrug resistant (MDR) may reduce efficacy of metaphylaxis due to decreased susceptibility to drugs used for metaphylaxis.

Objectives: Microvascular free tissue transfer is routinely used for reconstructing midface defects in patients with malignancy, however, studies regarding reconstructive outcomes in invasive fungal sinusitis (IFS) are lacking. We aim to describe outcomes of free flap reconstruction for IFS defects, determine the optimal time to perform reconstruction, and if anti-fungal medications or other risk factors of an immunocompromised patient population affect reconstructive outcomes.

Methods: Retrospective review of reconstruction for IFS (2010-2022).

Background: Individuals who perceive medical discrimination often face adverse consequences. How individuals perceive their own aging experiences may influence perceived medical discrimination due to age by generating expectations that they will receive poor treatment from clinicians, which may be amplified for individuals who also perceive discrimination because of race. This study explored the relationship between self-perceptions of aging (SPA) and perceived medical discrimination due to age, race, and other reasons.

Hearing aid fitting formulas intended for the pediatric population can differ by 6 to 25 dB in prescribed output across frequency leading to large variations in aided audibility. Children perceive these differences and have expressed preferences that favor more audibility for quiet speech and less audibility for noisy speech. In this study, the effect of variations in audibility consistent with hearing aid fittings for children was examined.
