Background: In skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), i-STRONGER is a novel, high-intensity resistance training approach that incorporates progressive resistance training to promote greater improvements in patient function compared to usual care. To inform large-scale expansion of i-STRONGER as standard-of-care in SNFs, this mixed-methods study assessed rehabilitation providers' perceptions of i-STRONGER and purported needs for its adoption.
Methods: Forty-three rehabilitation providers participated in an 18-week, interactive i-STRONGER training program.
Sensory neurons sense pathogenic infiltration to drive innate immune responses, but their role in humoral immunity is unclear. Here, using mouse models of Streptococcus pneumoniae infection and Alternaria alternata asthma, we show that sensory neurons are required for B cell recruitment and antibody production. In response to S.

Bariatric surgery is a well-known treatment for MASLD and obesity. Understanding the fundamental mechanisms by which bariatric surgery can alter MASLD can lead to new avenues of therapy and research.

The management of newly diagnosed well-differentiated pNETs is limited by a lack of sensitivity of existing biomarkers for prognostication. Our goal was to investigate the potential utility of genetic markers as a predictor of progression-free survival (PFS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS).

Therefore, patients are often required to undergo esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) to rule out esophageal varices (EV) prior to initiating therapy, which can delay care and lead to unnecessary procedural risks and health care costs. In 2019, the EVendo score was created and validated as a noninvasive tool to accurately screen out patients who were at low risk for having EV that required treatment.

Method: Twenty-six individuals met the inclusion criteria. Data were gathered from patient-reported outcome measures (PROs), symptomology, clinician reports of palpation, and hyolaryngeal and hyoid movements measured on a 20-ml thin liquid bolus during videofluoroscopic swallowing studies.
In-person swallow therapy is a primary and effective treatment for dysphagia. However, remote telehealth is now a widely utilized component of healthcare delivery for therapeutic interventions. This study evaluates potential factors influencing attendance at telehealth swallow therapy.

However, sensory neuron-immune interactions have been predominantly shown to drive innate immune responses. Humoral memory, whether protective or destructive, is acquired early in life - as demonstrated by both early exposure to streptococci and allergic disease onset.

Swallow therapy is the primary and effective treatment for dysphagia of various etiologies, and attendance is critical to success. This study seeks to identify barriers to swallow therapy attendance at a tertiary care, safety-net hospital.

This paper introduces an expert-reviewed conceptual framework to highlight common etiologies of dysphagia as well as integrate immediate outcomes of dysphagia with long-term outcomes of dysphagia in terms of medical problems, health-related quality of life, functional effect, and psychosocial features. It also outlines the potential cyclical nature of long-term dysphagia outcomes perpetuating the original dysphagia.

Thirty-one clinicians who use FEES in their daily practice were asked to judge airway invasion with the PAS and to rate their confidence that their score was correct (0-100) for 40 video clips, five in each of the 8 PAS categories. We found that raters were most confident in rating PAS 1, 7, and 8.

Published studies outline the use of protective barriers to limit the spread of pathogenic particles and droplets resulting from coughing, sneezing, and talking. The findings suggest a role for these barriers during aerosol-generating procedures, such as flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES).

We aimed to examine differences in presentation of acute pancreatitis [AP] in male and female patients hospitalized with alcohol-associated AP.
Methods: We analyzed 138 patients enrolled in an ongoing case-crossover study of alcohol-associated AP conducted across 5 medical centers in the U.
The overwhelming increase in the prevalence of obesity and related disorders in recent years is one of the greatest threats to the global healthcare system since it generates immense healthcare costs. As the prevalence of obesity approaches epidemic proportions, the importance of elucidating the mechanisms regulating appetite, satiety, body metabolism, energy balance and adiposity has garnered significant attention. Currently, gastrointestinal (GI) bariatric surgery remains the only approach capable of achieving successful weight loss.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third leading cause of liver-related death. Lipophilic statins have been associated with a decrease in HCC incidence, raising the possibility of their use as chemoprevention agents. The Yes-associated protein (YAP) and transcriptional coactivator with PDZ-binding motif (TAZ) have emerged as an important pro-oncogenic mechanism in HCC.

We hypothesise that obesity-related inflammation compromises adipose tissue functions, preventing efficient fat storage, and thus driving ectopic fat accumulation into the liver.
Methods: To identify adipose-based mechanisms and potential serum biomarker candidates (SBCs) for NAFLD, we utilise dual-tissue RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) data in adipose tissue and liver, paired with histology-based NAFLD diagnosis, from the same individuals in a cohort of obese individuals.
Poor visualization of polyps can limit colorectal cancer screening. Fluorescent antibodies to mucin5AC (MUC5AC), a glycoprotein upregulated in adenomas and colorectal cancer, could improve screening colonoscopy polyp detection rate. Adenomatous polyposis coli flox mice with a transgene () develop colonic polyps that contain both dysplastic and malignant tissue.

We aimed to compare the performance of two machine-learning models with a regression-based model in predicting pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), the most common form of PC.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study consisted of patients 50-84 years of age enrolled in either Kaiser Permanente Southern California (KPSC, model training, internal validation) or the Veterans Affairs (VA, external testing) between 2008 and 2017.
Purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused great strain on older adults with cancer and their healthcare providers. This study explored healthcare providers' reported changes in cancer care, clinical barriers to care, patient questions, and the overall experiences of caring for older adults with cancer during the COVID-19 crisis.
Methods: The Advocacy Committee of the Cancer and Aging Research Group and the Association of Community Cancer Centers developed a survey for healthcare providers of adults with cancer, inquiring about their experiences during the pandemic.
