Introduction: To increase the likelihood of research responding to societal needs, intermediary structures such as Science Shops are being created. Science Shops respond to research needs identified and prioritized through participatory processes involving civil society. However, these are not mainstream structures, and most research needs addressed by the scientific community are not defined by a diversity of stakeholders (including citizens) but are mostly prioritized by researchers and funders.

Objective: The main limit of radiation therapy is the dose-dependent toxicity to healthy tissues. A set of missense mutations in the gene encoding profilin-1 has been linked to the onset of familial forms of ALS (fALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. To investigate the ovulatory mechanisms triggered by raw semen (RS) in rabbits, we examined the expression of nerve growth factor (NGF)-a supposed ovulation-inducing factor (OIF)-and cognate receptors in anterior pituitary, ovary, and cervix as well as plasma NGF and luteinizing hormone (LH) concentrations. Six does/group were sham-inseminated with sterile saline (PBS), naturally mated (NM), inseminated with RS alone or after lumbar anesthesia (ARS), or treatment with COX inhibitors (CIRS). Immunohistochemistry revealed positive signals for NGF and receptors in all tissues.

Boundary, a plant fortifier composed of extracts of Sophora flavescens Aiton and brown algae, was tested for control of the leaf miner Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) on tomato (three trials) and of the red spider mite Tetranychus urticae Koch on eggplant (one trial) and for side effects on the whitefly predator Macrolophus pygmaeus (Kambur) (two trials) on tomato and on the thrips predators Orius laevigatus (Fieber) and Amblyseius swirskii Athias-Henriot (two trials) on pepper, all in cold greenhouses in South Italy. Control rates for T. absoluta were moderate (40-70%) in the autumn crop but very high and comparable to those for emamectin benzoate in the spring crops (96-100%).
