Red currant fruits are a valuable source of micro- and macronutrients, vitamins, and chemical compounds with health-promoting properties, the properties of which change depending on the harvest date and the time and method of storage. This study analysed the effect of applying 10 ppm ozone gas for 15 and 30 min on the mechanical properties, chemical properties and microbiological stability of three organic-grown red currant fruit cultivars. Fruits harvested at the time of harvest maturity had significantly larger diameters and weights and lower water contents compared with fruits harvested seven days earlier, and the ozonation process, regardless of its harvesting date, reduced the physical parameters in question (diameter, weight, and water content).

The aim of this study was to investigate the 5% / normal and waxy potato starch pastes (hot samples) and gels (cold samples) with the addition of 1% / whole and ground chia seeds properties as pasting and flow properties of pastes and textural properties of gels. The pasting process using a viscograph showed that normal and waxy potato starch with the addition of chia had a different pasting characteristic.

Deficiency of magnesium leads to serious biochemical and symptomatic changes. The present study was carried out to establish the influence of magnesium lactate fortification on the physico- chemical, microbiological and rheological properties of fat-free yogurt manufactured using different starters.

Background: Sheep’s milk has a high content of total solids, which qualifies it as a very good raw material for the production of fermented milk drinks. Currently, there are commercially produced kefirs and yogurts from sheep’s milk in the countries of the Mediterranean region. The growing interest in the consumption of these products is justified not only by their taste merits, but also because of their health-promoting proper- ties.

The allele frequency distribution of 10 STRs included in the SGMplus kit was analyzed among 2176 unrelated individuals from 6 regional Polish populations and among 4321 individuals from Germany (three samples), Austria, The Netherlands, Sweden, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Belarus, Ukraine and the Russian Federation (six samples). The statistical approach consisted of AMOVA, calculation of pairwise Rst values and analysis by multidimensional scaling.

The immortal T cell lines revealed morphological and other features typical for anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). In addition, multiple copies of ALK, but with no ALK gene rearrangements were found in a subpopulation of cells of one of the immortalized lines.

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the usefulness of these loci for forensic identification in a population of Central Poland. The distribution of alleles of the nine STRs was determined in sample of 353 unrelated individuals born in Central Poland and indices of forensic informativeness were calculated.

Based on data from both Y-chromosome marker systems, which we found to be highly correlated (r = 0.96), and using spatial analysis of the molecular variance (SAMOVA), we revealed statistically significant support for two groups of populations: (1) all Polish populations and (2) all German populations.

The allele frequencies for the 13 CODIS core loci and two recently developed but not extensively validated in Central European populations pentanucleotide STRs (Penta E and D) were determined using the Power Plex-16 (Promega) kit in a sample of 430 unrelated individuals born in Central Poland. The calculated parameters of polymorphism showed Penta E to be the most valuable marker from the studied set. The obtained distribution of Penta E and D alleles was statistically significantly different from that previously reported for a population of Southern Poland.
