The aim of this study was to determine the antibacterial and antifungal properties of the extracts, subextracts and essential oils of Bidens tripartita flowers and herbs. In the study, twelve extracts and two essential oils were investigated for activity against different Gram-positive Bacillus subtilis, Micrococcus luteus, Staphylococcus aureus, Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli, E. coli (beta-laktamase+), Klebsiella pneumoniae (ESBL+), Pseudomonas aeruginosa and some fungal organisms Candida albicans, C.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA total of 48 clinical isolates of Enterococcus faecium were tested for their susceptibility to glycopeptide antibiotics (vancomycin and teicoplanin). We observed a low-level of resistance to vancomycin (phenotype Van B) for 4.2% isolates.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA total of 73 isolates of Staphylococcus aureus (26 - MRSA, 47 - MSSA) were tested for their susceptibility to macrolide antibiotics and new derivatives (azalide - azythromycin and ketolide -telithromycin). We observed a high - level resistance of MRSA isolates to all tested antibiotics. Over 96% of isolates were resistant to macrolides and azalides and 92,3% to ketolides.

The aim of the study was to assess the fluoride ion release and antibacterial activities of the glassionomer cement Fuji IX and the compomer (composite modified polyacid) Dyract AP. Fluoride ion release was measured using direct potentiometry with an Orion fluoride ion selective electrode. The measurement was carried out after 1, 4, 7, 14, 30, and 60 days of storage in phosphate buffer at pH 6.

Seven multidrug-resistant (MDR) of Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains were isolated from urine and bronchial specimens. All isolates showed resistance to imipenem and meropenem (MIC; > or =16 mg/L).

To the examination 35 strains of Enterobacteriaceae and 18 of non-fermentative bacteria were included. Resistance to aminoglycosides (gentamicin (G), netilmicin (Nt), tobramycin (T), amikacin (A), kanamycin (K), neomycin (N)) was established by disk diffusion method.

A total of 154 adult patients with dyspeptic symptoms were studied. In case of 115 (74,68%) persons Helicobacter pylori infection was detected, taking into consideration positive results in a rapid urease test and histological examination and presence of antibodies in the serum. In 69,6% predominated high (> 72 IU/ml) level specific anty-H.

For comparison, the immunofluorescence technique was also employed. The results obtained by two methods revealed that immunofluorescence were less sensitive.

A new flavonoid compound isokaempferide 7-O-beta-d-(6''-methylglucuronide) (1) was isolated from flowers of Cirsium rivulare (Jacq.) All. Its structure was elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic studies (UV, (1)H and (13)C NMR, FABMS).

For the study 100 patients were employed with significant and insignificant bacteriuria. It was found that 81% of the results obtained by IP ACB and IF ACB were identical, however the immunoenzymatic method was more sensitive than immunofluorescence.
