Ra, a targeted α-therapy, is approved for the treatment of patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) who have bone metastases. In the phase 3 ALSYMPCA study, Ra prolonged survival and improved quality of life versus placebo. Our real-world study, PARABO, investigated pain and bone pain-related quality of life in patients with mCRPC and symptomatic bone metastases receiving Ra in clinical practice.

CEACAM receptors undergo homo- and heterophilic interactions thereby regulating normal tissue homeostasis and angiogenesis, and in cancer, tumor invasion and metastasis. CEACAM6 expression on malignant plasma cells inhibits antitumor activity of T cells, and we hypothesize a similar function on epithelial cancer cells.

This first-in-human dose-escalation phase I study evaluated BAY 1862864 in patients with CD22-positive relapsed/refractory B cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (R/R-NHL). BAY 1862864 intravenous injections were administered at the starting Th radioactivity dose of 1.

As Ra-223 and most of its progeny emit alpha particles, especially the internal exposure of persons in the patient's vicinity had to be evaluated.
Methods: The external radiation was measured in distances of 1 m and 2 m.
Peripheral neuropathy (PN) is a recognized side effect of microtubule-targeting agents and the most clinically relevant toxicity observed with the epothilone sagopilone (SAG). Studies suggest that acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC) may prevent chemotherapy-induced PN. We conducted a prospective, placebo (PBO)-controlled, double-blind, randomized trial to investigate the safety and efficacy of ALC for the prevention of SAG-induced PN.

The aim of this multicenter evaluation is to prove the feasibility of the multicenter web-based data collection and to preliminary explore imaging findings and prediction of therapy response in patients with follicular lymphoma (FL) following radioimmunotherapy (RIT) with 90Y-ibritumomab tiuxetan.
Patients, Methods: We retrospectively analyzed and correlated clinical and imaging data (CT and FDG-PET) before and after RIT as documented by the RIT-Network.
In nuclear medicine therapy the treatment of tumours by radiation exposure from internally deposited labelled antibodies or labelled peptides is currently an active field of investigation. To permit the efficient delivery of high amounts of radiation dose to tumours while limiting the radiation dose to critical organs dosimetry calculations have to be performed. These are relying on scintigraphic data being input to the well known MIRD formalism.

Depot time is currently being prolonged, using drug-eluting beads or microspheres for selective internal radiation therapy. The purpose of this study was to establish a model for investigating the depot time of particles injected into tumors in relation to tumor vascularization and particle size.

In the last decade, it was shown that single-photon emission computer tomography (SPECT) acquisition of LPS overcame static scintigraphy. Furthermore, there are rare indications for LPS, such as preoperative quantification of regional lung function prior to lung resection or transplantation, optimization of lung cancer radiation therapy, quantification of right-left shunt, planning of intra-arterial chemotherapy, and several rare indications in pediatrics.

The first clinical experience with the combination of both treatment modalities is reported.
Methods: Between 2005 and 2006, 12 patients with muliple bone metastases from HRPC were treated with a single application of 37 MBq/kg body weight 153Sm-lexidronam and 6 weekly infusions of 35 mg/m2 docetaxel.
Background: This paper describes the feasibility of intra-arterial high-activity administration of (188)Re-microspheres.
Methods: Patients with unresectable colorectal liver metastases or hepatocellular cancer (HCC) received single treatments with (188)Re-microspheres. The administered activity was calculated to give a liver dose of 100 Gy.
Hypertrophy and inflammation of the synovium with various underlying pathologies - such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, haemophilia and spondyloarthropathy - can be treated successfully by radiosynoviorthesis (RSO). For medium-sized joints (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip and ankle), the radionuclide of choice is rhenium-186. We review the evidence for the efficacy of this local, relatively non-invasive therapy and evaluate its benefits and risks.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFRadiosynoviorthesis (RSO) with an yttrium-90 colloid offers a local and minimally invasive therapy for treating inflammatory hypertrophy of the synovial membrane of the knee that has arisen from numerous kinds of disorder: these include rheumatoid arthritis (RA), osteoarthritis (OA), spondyloarthropathy, villonodular synovitis and others. There is substantial evidence that this treatment is efficacious and that, in view of the benefits that it offers, its tolerability and safety are very good. Administration should be restricted to patients in whom other therapies (including locally injected corticoids) have failed, and proper attention must be paid to correct administration, including post-treatment immobilization and the co-administration of corticoids, to minimize the risk of leakage and of efflux through the puncture channel.

Since the injected colloid may leak into the lymphatic drainage exposing other parts of the body to radiation, the measurement of biological damage induced by beta-particles of Y-90 is important for the assessment of radiation risk to the patients. Proline is a heme ligand in both the Fe(III) and Fe(II) states; the sixth ligand is cysteinate in Fe(III) CooA and histidine in Fe(II) CooA. When CO binds to Fe(II) CooA, it selectively replaces the proline ligand, activating the protein.

In this study, plasma concentrations of chromogranin A, calcitonin and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) were measured in 40 healthy volunteers as well as in 129 patients with recurrences and/or metastases of neuroendocrine tumors and of medullary thyroid carcinomas (MTCs). A double antibody assay was employed using polyclonal rabbit antibodies to a C-terminal fragment of the protein for detection of human chromogranin A. Using ROC analysis, a cutoff at 22 U/l chromogranin A was calculated.

Aim: This study investigates whether these new assays provide an advantage in routine diagnosis of thyroid disorders.
