Virological characterization of Parvovirus B19 isolated during the atypical 2023-2024 outbreak in France.

Background: A Parvovirus B19 (B19V) outbreak has been reported in Europe in 2023-2024. The aims of this study were 1) to describe the incidence of primary cases from 2012 to 2024 in one French hospital 2) to analyze the genome of 2023 strains 3) to identify virological profiles according to the clinical presentations of B19V infection.

Methods: The incidence of B19V primary cases was studied through an interrupted time-series analysis.

Salvage strategy for long-term central venous catheter-associated Staphylococcus aureus infections in children: a multi-centre retrospective study in France.

Objectives: Catheter removal is recommended in adults with Staphylococcus aureus central-line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) but is controversial in children with long-term central venous catheters (LTCVC). We evaluated the occurrence of catheter salvage strategy (CSS) in children with S. aureus LTCVC-associated CLABSI and assessed determinants of CSS failure.

Sputum interleukin-6 level as a marker of severity during acute chest syndrome in children with sickle cell disease.

Acute chest syndrome (ACS) is a leading cause of morbimortality in sickle cell disease (SCD). In this prospective observational study, we investigated sputum interleukin-6 (IL-6) level as an ACS severity marker during 30 ACS episodes in 26 SCD children. Sputum IL-6 levels measured within the first 72 h of hospitalisation for ACS were significantly higher in patients with oxygen requirement ≥2 L/min, ventilation (invasive and/or non-invasive) length ≥5 days, bilateral and/or extensive opacities on chest X-ray or erythrocytapheresis requirement.

Severe Meningococcal Meningitis Revealing a Novel Form of Properdin Deficiency in a Previously Healthy 13-Year-old Child.

A 13-year-old boy was admitted with severe meningococcal meningitis. Immunologic workup revealed a properdin deficiency, and genetic sequencing of CFP identified a novel, private and predicted pathogenic variant in exon 8. The patient received broad immunizations and penicillin prophylaxis.

Two pediatric cases of multisystem inflammatory-like syndrome following COVID-19 vaccination.

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a novel post-infectious disease occurring in the context of SARS-CoV2 infection. COVID-19 vaccines have been authorized since December 2020, and adverse events including myocarditis have been reported following vaccination. We describe the cases of two pediatric patients presenting with clinical and laboratory features suggestive of MIS-C a few days after receiving their first dose of the Pfizer BNT162b2 vaccine.

Severe and fatal forms of COVID-19 in children.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to describe severe forms of novel coronavirus disease 2019 in children, including patient characteristics, clinical, laboratory, and imaging findings, as well as the disease management and outcomes.

Methods: This was a retrospective, single-center, observational study conducted in a pediatric intensive and high-dependency care unit (PICU, HDU) in an urban hospital in Paris. All patients, aged from 1 month to 18 years, admitted for confirmed or highly suspected SARS-CoV-2 were included.
