Galectin-3 (Gal3), a β-galactoside-binding lectin, is expressed predominantly in immunological and inflammatory cells. Gal3 expression is elevated in metabolic diseases, including obesity, diabetes, and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), and plays an important role in the progression of these diseases. In this review, we summarize the structure and post-translational modifications of Gal3 and the cellular functions of Gal3 according to its subcellular localization.

Carbonyl-containing materials employed in state-of-the-art hybrid lead halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) exhibit a strong structure-dependent electron donor effect that predominates in defect passivation. However, the impact of the molecular spatial conformation on the efficacy of carbonyl-containing passivators remains ambiguous, hindering the advancement of molecular design for passivating materials. Herein, we show that altering the spatial torsion angle of aromatic ketones from twisted to planar configurations, as seen in benzophenone (BP, 27.

Given the escalating issue of global climate change, it is imperative to comprehend and quantify the effects of land use change on carbon storage (CS), which pertains not only to the preservation of ecosystem functions but also directly influences the equilibrium and stability of the global carbon cycle. This study examines the correlation between CS and land use change, forecasts the future spatial distribution of CS, and offers a reference for the rational planning of watershed space. Focusing on the Bosten Lake Basin of Xinjiang in China, employing the land use simulation (PLUS) model and the integrated valuation of ecosystem services and trade-offs (InVEST) model to forecast the spatial distribution of carbon stocks across three developmental scenarios, while also examining the shift in the center of gravity of CS and the autocorrelation of their spatial distribution.

The promotion of the utilization of waste agricultural and forestry resources (AFRs) as a means of combating environmental pollution represents an advanced and necessary development approach with the potential to achieve sustainable development. In this work, an advanced adsorbent with a functional Mg-Al bimetallic layer was prepared using waste sawdust biomass (WSD) as a raw material. The layer serves as the primary active component for adsorbing total phosphate from both simulated and real wastewater.

  • The study explored how Xinfeng capsule (XFC) affects the salivary gland's structure and function in a mouse model of primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS).
  • During the experiment, researchers collected and analyzed salivary gland tissues to measure specific gene expressions before and after XFC treatment, focusing on genes like EGR1 and M3R.
  • Results showed that XFC significantly improved saliva production and reduced inflammation in the salivary glands, with EGR1 identified as a potential biomarker for future pSS treatments.

The prevalence of type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has increased over 10-fold in the past 40 years in China, which now has the largest T2DM population in the world. Insulin resistance and β-cell dysfunction are the typical features of T2DM. Although both factors play a role, decreased β-cell function and β-cell mass are the predominant factors for progression to T2DM.

Mn doping has been used to improve the physical chemistry of lead halide perovskite nanocrystals such as CsPbX, where X is a halogen ion. In this paper, a two-phase method for Mn-doped CsPbX nanosheets (where X=Br, Cl), namely water-hexane system, is reported. Compared to conventional catalyst arrays, the band gap of CsPbBr nanocrystalline is easily tuned, the carrier diffusion distance is remote, the band edge position of the band structure is favorable for a wide range of electrocatalytic redox reactions, and the catalytic active site is maximally exposed, providing a larger electrolyte contact area.

Background: Variations in symptoms and indistinguishable depression episodes of unipolar depression (UD) and bipolar disorder (BD) make the discrimination difficult and time-consuming. For adolescents with high disease prevalence, an efficient diagnostic tool is important for the discrimination and treatment of BU and UD.

Methods: This multi-center cross-sectional study involved 1587 UD and 246 BD adolescents aged 12-18.

Electron-withdrawing molecules (EWMs) have exhibited remarkable efficacy in boosting the performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, the underneath mechanisms governing their positive attributes remain inadequately understood. Herein, we conducted a comprehensive study on EWMs by comparing 2,2'-(2,5-cyclohexadiene-1,4-diylidene) bismalononitrile (TCNQ) and (2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-2,5-cyclohexadiene-1,4-diylidene) dimalononitrile (F4TCNQ) employed at the perovskite/hole transport layer (HTL) interfaces.

In this work, the relationship between electrochemiluminescence (ECL) signal and driving voltage was first studied by self-made reduced and oxidized closed bipolar electrodes (CBPEs). It was found that when the driving voltage was large enough, the maximum ECL signals for the two kinds of CBPEs were the same but their required drive voltages were different. Zinc cobalt nitrogen doped carbon material (ZnCoN-C) had an outstanding electric double layer (EDL) property and conductivity.
