Amphiphilic solvents such as -butanol partition into the cell membrane of fermenting microorganisms, thinning the transverse structure, and eventually causing a loss of membrane potential and cell death. In this work, we demonstrate the deleterious effects of -butanol partitioning upon the lateral dimension of the membrane structure, called membrane domains or lipid rafts.

We have developed a procedure to prepare MPs from plastic films or pellets using mechanical milling and sieving, and conversion of the resultant MPs into NPs through wet grinding, both steps of which mimic the degradation and fragmentation of plastics in nature.

Here we study the effect of a third component, the single chain detergent -dodecyl--d-maltoside (DDM) on the morphology of bicelles composed of 1,2-dimyristoyl--glycero-3-phosphocholine (DMPC) and 3-[(3-cholamidopropyl)dimethylammonio]-2-hydroxy-1-propanesulfonate (CHAPSO) below (10 °C) and above (38 °C) the phase transition. In the absence of DDM, bicelles convert from ellipsoidal disks at 10 °C to extended ribbon-like structures at 38 °C.

We generated an AID knockout CLL mouse model, AID/Eμ-TCL1, and found that these mice die significantly earlier than their AID-proficient counterparts. AID-deficient CLL cells exhibit a higher ER stress response compared to Eμ-TCL1 controls, particularly through activation of the IRE1/XBP1s pathway.

While high-dose chemotherapy followed by autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) leads to improved disease-free survival (DFS) for children and adults with relapsed/refractory Hodgkin lymphoma (HL), relapse remains the most frequent cause of mortality post-transplant. Rituximab has been successfully incorporated into regimens for other B-cell lymphomas, yet there have been limited studies of rituximab in HL patients. We hypothesized that adding rituximab to BEAM (carmustine, etoposide, cytarabine, melphalan) conditioning would reduce relapse risk in HL patients post-transplant.
