Background: Previous studies suggest that appendectomy has a protective effect against ulcerative colitis (UC); however, relatively few studies focusing on this topic have been reported in China.
Aim: To explore the correlation between appendectomy and the onset of UC.
Methods: A total of 313 patients with newly diagnosed UC and 313 healthy individuals were selected for this study.
The association between spindle metrics and sleep architecture differs during N2 vs. N3 sleep, the underlying neural mechanism is not clearly illustrated. Here, we tested the discrepancy in spindle-related brain activation between N2 and N3 within healthy college students (dataset 1: n = 27, 59 % females, median age 23 years), using simultaneous electroencephalography-functional magnetic resonance imaging (EEG-fMRI).

Patients are often accompanied by low self-esteem and urgently require treatment, and most of them have the requirement of minimally invasive treatment and minimal scarring.
Method: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of minimally invasive treatment of axillary osmidrosis with refined negative pressure-assisted rubbing suction technique.
Iron overload is a common feature of alcoholic liver disease (ALD) and contributes significantly to disease progression. Quercetin, a flavonoid known for its iron-chelating properties, has emerged as a potential protective compound against ALD. However, research on quercetin's regulatory effects on iron levels in ALD is limited.

Study Design: Cross-sectional study.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study among 4604 children aged 6-17 years from Shenzhen, China.
Objectives: This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) and the training requirements of pediatric intensive care nurses regarding intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) monitoring, in order to provide a reference for the development of relevant training programs and operational procedures in clinical practice.
Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted from April 2023 to June 2023. A convenience sample was created by recruiting 212 pediatric intensive care nurses in eight hospitals in Zhejiang Province.
Background: Genetic and environmental factors contribute to psoriasis, but the impact of residential environments on this condition remains uncertain. We aimed to investigate the association of residential environments with psoriasis risk and explore its interaction with genes.
Methods: We retrieved data on the spatial distribution of residential environments at 300 and 1000 m buffer zones from the UK Biobank, including the proportions of natural environments, domestic gardens, green spaces, and blue spaces within these zones.
Objective: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a prevalent form of dementia worldwide as a cryptic neurodegenerative disease. The symptoms of AD will last for several years, which brings great mental and economic burden to patients and their families. Unfortunately, the complete cure of AD still faces great challenges.

This study aimed to produce SS 316L/Inconel 625 FGMs with varying transition compositions using dual-wire arc additive manufacturing (D-WAAM). An optimization strategy for transition gradients was implemented to exclude component regions that are prone to defect formation (notably cracking), as well as to retain other component regions, thereby enhancing the overall mechanical properties of FGMs.

Objective: This study aimed to examine the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between serum vitamin D and serum uric acid (SUA) levels in children and adolescents.
Atherosclerosis (AS) with iron and lipid overload and systemic inflammation is a risk factor for Alzheimer's disease. M1 macrophage/microglia participate in neuronal pyroptosis and recently have been reported to be the ferroptosis-resistant phenotype. Quercetin plays a prominent role in preventing and treating neuroinflammation, but the protective mechanism against neurodegeneration caused by iron deposition is poorly understood.

To explore the spatiotemporal differences and formation mechanisms of the combined vulnerability to droughts and heat waves in Shandong Province over the past 20 years, a vulnerability scoping diagram (VSD) model with three dimensions-exposure, sensitivity, and adaptability-was constructed to assess and compare the combined vulnerability to high-temperature and drought events, considering economic and social conditions. The results showed that (1) over the past 20 years, heat waves and droughts have increased in Shandong Province.

The photocatalytic performance of composite microspheres for the organic dye rhodamine B (RhB) was systematically investigated under different conditions, and the catalytic degradation rate of RhB was as high as 95% within 60 min; after three cycles of recycling, the degradation rate of RhB was reduced by only 8%. The main active agents in the reaction are e and O.

This study aims to explore the effects of quercetin on ferroptosis in ALD and elucidates the underlying mechanism involving the formation of mitochondria-associated endoplasmic reticulum membranes (MAMs) mediated by protein kinase RNA-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase (PERK).
Methods And Results: C57BL/6J mice are fed either a regular or an ethanol-containing liquid diet (with 28% energy form ethanol) with or without quercetin supplementation (100 mg kg BW) for 12 weeks.

Cellular senescence and iron accumulation were separately observed in diabetic nephropathy (DN). Limited evidence supports that iron was significantly accumulated in senescent cells. We aimed to explore whether iron is involved in the pathogenesis role of senescence in DN.

We aimed to investigate the prospective association of CHEI with diabetes among Chinese adults.
Methods: 1563 adults free of diabetes at baseline and with at least two survey data from 1997 to 2018 were included.
Introduction: The anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) gene fusion occurs in approximately 3% to 7% of nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC), in which occurs approximately 23% to 31% of brain metastasis patients in poor prognosis. ALK tyrosine kinase inhibitors have shown efficacy in treating ALK-positive (ALK+) NSCLC. More than 90 distinct subtypes of ALK fusions have been identified through sequencing technique and would lead to significant differences in clinical efficacy, it is necessary to guide clinical treatment effectively by gene detection.
