Article Synopsis
  • - The rising issue of antibiotic resistance (ABR) necessitates efficient testing methods to guide effective antibiotic treatments.
  • - The text explores the use of laser light scattering (LLS) in creating miniaturized systems for quick ABR testing in microbiological labs, specifically through integration into a lab-on-a-chip format.
  • - Experimental results reveal that LLS can rapidly assess the impact of antibiotics on microorganisms, achieving results in as little as 10 minutes, highlighting its potential for next-gen diagnostic tools.

Titania is very famous photocatalyst for decomposition of organic pollutants. Its photocatalytic properties significantly depend on the morphology and chemical composition of the samples. Herein, the TiO nanotubes/CuO nanoheterostructures have been synthesized and the effect of heat treatment performed in molecular atmospheres of air and argon on their photoelectrochemical and photocatalytic properties has been studied.

Discussed in the article is the literature data on the background, causes, and mechanisms of the development of degenerative aneurysmatic transformation of the afferent artery in a long-functioning arteriovenous fistula. This is followed by presenting two own clinical case reports concerning the development of pronounced dilatation of arteries during 13 and 25 years of the existence of posttraumatic arteriovenous anastomoses, with a detailed description of the variants of surgical treatment of these patients.

The article deals with the literature data on history of and modern attitude to lumbar sympathectomy in treatment for occlusive lesions of lower-limb peripheral arteries. This is followed by analysing the experience of 1,764 operations both independent and those combined with vascular reconstructions over more than a 45-year period. A conclusion is drawn that lumbar sympathectomy remains an operation associated with minimal traumaticity and a low complication rate, thus for long years improving the quality of life and destiny of patients.

Authors analyzed a five years experience of the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral arterial aneurysms in the Center of vascular surgery of the multidisciplinary military hospital. Authors give the assessment of different diagnostic instrumental methods and demonstrate results of surgical treatment. The possibility and effectiveness of endovascular-traumatic method of surgical correction of this pathology of lower limb arteries are given.

The authors show that the prophylaxis of local complications after femoral artery cannulation consists of proper technique of puncture, careful site selection for puncture, usage of closure devices and external compression. The authors also underline that it is necessary to pay special attention to patients receiving anticoagulant or antiaggregant therapy. Despite the rarity, occurrence of inguinal canal hematoma after the X-ray contrast angiography and X-ray endovascular surgery is a serious complication that can prolong recovery.

The clinical effectiveness of primary and secondary headache treatment by transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) with various locations of stimulating electrodes on the scalp was analyzed retrospectively. The results of the treatment were analyzed in 90 patients aged from 19 to 54 years (48 patients had migraine without aura, 32 - frequent episodic tension-type HAs, 10 - chronic tension-type HAs) and in 44 adolescents aged 11-16 years with chronic post-traumatic HAs after a mild head injury. Clinical effectiveness of tDCS with 70-150 μA current for 30-45 min via 6.

Nowadays the infection of a vascular implants in abdominal aorta is the heaviest and terrible complication in vascular surgery. Frequency of suppuration of vascular implants in aortic position is from 1 up to 3,5%, with lethality from 21 up to 80%. Average age is 61,4 +/- 4,3 years.

Disclosure of aneurysm of abdominal aorta indicates severity and prevalence of atherosclerotic process which means high probability of combined occlusive affections in other arterial circulations. Authors treated the patient with aneurysm of iliac artery with widespread atherosclerosis of aorta taking into account the abovementioned facts. Right stage surgical tactics assured success.

Brain structures with bioelectric activity (BA) different from BA of the same structures in healthy peers were revealed using an original 3DLocEEG analysis of EEGs that solves so-called "reverse EEG task". These were the following structures: thalamus, pineal gland, hypothalamic area, including suprahiasmatic nuclei, and infratemporal cortex. The shift of BA focus to structures of the left hemisphere including left thalamus was recorded in patients with AIS; the shift increased both with worsening of deformation and increasing progression activity.

The purpose of this work is to identify a role of the pineal gland/suprachiasmatic nucleus system in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) aetiology and pathogenesis. To analyze electroencephalograms of 292 children with AIS and in 46 healthy subjects, a processing method was used to assess three-dimensional coordinates of electric equivalent dipole sources (EEDSs) within the brain. Amounts of EEDSs in the pineal gland and suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) area were assessed in different age groups and during the progress of orthopaedic pathology.

The title compounds, (4-trifluoromethoxyphenyl)-2,5-dimethyl-3-(2-R-thiazol-4-yl)-1H-pyrroles, were prepared in four steps starting from commercially available 4-trifluoromethoxyaniline. The pyrrole (second ring) was added in one step using the Paal-Knorr method. The thiazole (third ring) was added in three steps using chloroacylation with chloroacetonitrile followed by heterocyclization with thioamides/thioureas.

The garrot is one of the most well-known means by stemming of an exterior flow of blood of injured limbs. The article presents analyze of frequency, of indicated values and faults during the using of garrot in modern conditions of the combat in the Northern Caucasus (1994-2002). On the base of 104 wounds of great vessels, the authors make a conclusion about the necessity of using of the garrot only in the cases of absolute indications, when the other method of hemostasia, more simple and secure, is impossible.

Chromonic liquid crystals are formed by the addition of aromatic molecules such as disodium chromoglycate (cromolyn) to water. In this study, we investigate the addition of salts to the lyotropic nematic phase of cromolyn aqueous solutions. The addition of sodium and potassium salts shifts the isotropic-nematic phase boundary upward by more than 10 degrees C, so that samples that were isotropic at room temperature are transformed into nematic phases.

This paper reviews two clinical cases of a rare type of extraanatomic revascularization of the right kidney by means of establishing a renogastroduodenal arterial anastomosis. The clinical cases presented herein demonstrate an adequacy of the given extraanatomic reconstruction of the renal artery. The indications for such operation are compelled and should be determined strictly individually in terms of each concrete case.

Nineteen patients with aneurysms of the popliteal artery have been operated. Indications and type of surgery were determined on the basis of the clinical picture, angiography and duplex scanning data. There were 19 surgeries: ligation of afferent and efferent vessels of aneurysm with auto-venous grafting (8), resection of aneurysm with auto-venous grafting (5), dissection of aneurysm with auto-venous grafting and coverage with duplication from aneurysmatic walls (3), endovascular grafting of aneurysm (2), ligation of afferent vessel of aneurysm (1).

In the elderly and old patients with atherosclerosis of lower limb arteries, ultrasonic dopplerography assisted study of hemodynamics in foot with use of Valsalva and corinfar tests was carried out. It is revealed that these patients retain high reaction to sympathetic influences. The obtained data were the base for use of lumbar sympathectomy in 419 patients over 65 years as an independent method of surgical treatment and in combination with reconstructive operations on major arteries.
