Competencies of Nurse Managers as Predictors of Staff Nurses' Job Satisfaction and Turnover Intention.

Nurse managers have played an integral role in stabilizing the nursing work environment and workforce in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, yet the competencies required for such a feat are largely unknown. This study was conducted during the pandemic to identify the specific domains of nurse manager competencies that associate with nurse outcomes. A cross-sectional survey was conducted on a convenience sample of 698 staff nurses to measure the perceived competence of their nurse managers and their job satisfaction and turnover intention levels.

Multi-Generational Perspectives on the Competencies Required of First-Line Nurse Managers: A Phenomenological Study.

First-line nurse managers play an integral role in ensuring team and organizational effectiveness and quality of care. They are facing increasing challenges arising from the need to lead a generation-diverse workforce. Further research that examines multi-generational perspectives on the competencies of first-line nurse managers is warranted.

Patient advocacy: the role of the nurse.

The role of nurses as patient advocates is well recognised by healthcare professionals, yet the processes and practices involved in patient advocacy are not clearly understood. A suboptimal level of advocacy is often apparent in the literature, encompassing paternalistic concepts of protecting patients from harm. This article examines the concept of patient advocacy and its relevance to nursing, associated goals and outcomes of advocacy and the processes and practices involved.

Influenza vaccine preference and uptake among older people in nine countries.

Aim: This paper is a report of a study delineating factors that influence older people's preferences and uptake of the influenza vaccine in nine countries.

Background: Vaccination uptake for the aging population in many countries still remains below the World Health Organization recommended rate. Older people who perceive higher susceptibility to and severity of influenza, and more benefits from vaccination and action cues prompting vaccination, tend to accept the vaccine, but those with more perceived barriers to vaccination are less likely to accept it.
