[Evaluation of capsule endoscopy in the diagnosis of small bowel disease].

Objective: To evaluate the clinical utility of capsule endoscopy in diagnosing small bowel disease.

Methods: A retrospective review of 155 cases undergone capsule endoscopy examinations from September 2002 to March 2007 in our hospital were performed. Gastric and small bowel transit time, patient tolerability, number of complete and incomplete examinations, and examination findings were evaluated.

Coma caused by isoniazid poisoning in a patient treated with pyridoxine and hemodialysis.

Isoniazid is widely used to treat tuberculosis. In populations with a high prevalence rate of tuberculosis, acute ingestion of isoniazid has been reported as a potential cause of coma. In this study, we present the diagnosis and treatment of isoniazid poisoning in a case with acute coma as the major clinical presentation.

[Association of interleukin-1 gene polymorphism with gastric cancer in a high-risk area of China].

Objective: To study the difference in the frequencies of interleukin-1B (IL-1) +3954, -511, -31 and IL-1RN gene polymorphism between gastric cancer patients and normal subjects in Shaanxi Province, a high risk area of gastric cancer of China.

Methods: The genomic DNA was extracted from the peripheral blood of 169 normal subjects and 86 gastric cancer patients in Shaanxi Province. IL-1 polymorphisms were analyzed using PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP).
