Economic development, marine transportation, and oil exploration are all activities that are increasing in the Arctic region, and there is concern regarding increased oil-related contaminants entering this sensitive environment. Polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs) are the main chemical constituents in oil-related contaminants and have been detected in wildlife species following both acute and chronic exposure. In 2020, an oil spill occurred in Kaikopok Bay near Postville, NL, Canada.

Percutaneous atrial septal defect closure in Ebstein's anomaly.

We report a patient with Ebstein's anomaly, on chronic milrinone therapy for right ventricular failure, who underwent palliative percutaneous closure of her atrial septal defect (ASD) due to recurring strokes. Repeated evaluation of right-sided pressures was performed prior to ASD closure to determine if our patient could tolerate the intervention. Definitive ASD closure was performed under fluoroscopic and transesophageal echocardiogram guidance.

Background: Aiming for and ensuring effective patient safety is a major priority in the management and culture of every health care organization. The pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) has become a workplace with a high diversity of multidisciplinary physicians and professionals. Inter-professional in-situ simulated team and resuscitation training for patient safety: Description and impact of a programmatic approach.

Background: Inter-professional teamwork is key for patient safety and team training is an effective strategy to improve patient outcome. In-situ simulation is a relatively new strategy with emerging efficacy, but best practices for the design, delivery and implementation have yet to be evaluated. Our aim is to describe and evaluate the implementation of an inter-professional in-situ simulated team and resuscitation training in a teaching hospital with a programmatic approach.

Background: The aim of this review is to introduce the topic of next-generation DNA sequencing, a new technology that is being introduced into clinical practice, and to explain the potential impact for breast cancer surgeons and the wider breast cancer multidisciplinary team.

Aim: The aims of this systematic review were to determine the presentations of diverticular disease in patients under 40 years of age and to assess whether obesity is an important factor.

Method: The PubMed and EMBASE databases and the Cochrane Library were searched to identify all original articles published between 1990 and 2011 on diverticular disease severity in obese patients (body mass index of ≥ 30 kg/m(2) ) under 40 years of age.

Results: Twenty-three clinical case series (two of which were prospective) were identified plus two large aetiological population-based studies.

A framework for describing anion displacements from perfect octahedra in perovskites has been developed for use with neutron diffraction data sets. We describe the distortions as noncoplanar arrangements, or buckling, of oxygen ions in any central plane of the octahedron, ignoring the central cation. Nonplanar distortions of octahedra have been calculated for perovskite structures contained within the Inorganic Crystal Structure Database.

This study evaluated whether receiving developmentally appropriate feedback in the form of individualized fables would affect how children and their parents reported experiencing a neuropsychological assessment. Participants were 32 children who underwent a neuropsychological assessment, along with one of their parents. The evaluation process, including the provision of parent feedback, was standard for the setting, a private practice of neuropsychology.
