Objectives: To detect the presence of unsuspected and/or undeclared cathinone and piperazine-type designer drugs in methamphetamine (METH) and amphetamine users treated in emergency departments, and to compare clinical and toxicologic profiles.

Material And Methods: Retrospective observational study of emergency department patients treated for confirmed acute intoxication by recreational drugs (METH and amphetamines) between March 2019 and December 2020. We ordered high-performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry to detect cathinones (methylone, fluoromethcathinone, mexedrone, fluoromethamphetamine, mephedrone, methylenedioxypyrovalerone) and synthetic piperazines (meta-chlorophenylpiperazine and trifluoromethylphenylpiperazine).

Association between vitamin D status and allergen sensitization in pediatric subjects in the Balearic Islands.

Introduction: Vitamin D has known effects on the immune system, and its deficiency has been associated with allergen sensitization.

Material And Methods: A retrospective study was performed to evaluate the association between 25(OH)vitamin D (25(OH)D) and specific IgE for the most frequent allergens in our area in children and adolescents. All subjects under 15 years of age with a determination of Phadiatop or Phadiatop Infant and close serum 25(OH)D determination were included, from 2012 to 2019.

Background: Information on the characteristics of patients with nosocomial influenza and associated complications is scarce. This study compared epidemiological and clinical characteristics of patients admitted with hospital-acquired influenza (HAI) to those with community-acquired influenza (CAI) and analyzed risk factors associated with complications.

Methods: This retrospective, observational study included all adult patients with confirmed influenza virus infection admitted to Son Espases University Hospital during the influenza season in Spain (October to May) from 2012-2013 to 2015-2016.

Vitamin D status is related to severity at onset of diabetes and worse glycemic control.

Objectives Our aim is to evaluate whether 25-hydroxyvitamin D at onset of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) would influence analytical variables of worse prognosis of the disease at the beginning and after one year of development. Methods A retrospective study of pediatric patients (0-14 years) diagnosed with T1DM with initial measurements of 25-hydroxyvitamin D was performed at Son Espases Hospital, between March 2012 and April 2019 (n=67). Results Vitamin D insufficiency was related to age, glycosylated hemoglobin, and creatinine.

Amphetamine and methamphetamine poisonings attended in hospital emergency departments: clinical features and the usefulness of laboratory confirmation.

Objectives: To determine whether clinical and toxicologic findings differed between cases of amphetamine (AMP) and methamphetamine (mAMP) poisoning attended in 2 Balearic Island hospital emergency departments.

Material And Methods: Retrospective observational study of AMP and mAMP cases with laboratory confirmation between 2013 and 2018. We compared clinical and toxicologic variables as well as clinical management between groups.

Phytate, or myo-inositol 1,2,3,4,5,6-hexakis dihydrogen phosphate (InsP6), is a naturally occurring phosphorus compound that is present in many foods, mainly legumes, whole grains and nuts. Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have cardiovascular disease mortality up to 30times higher than the general population. Vascular calcifications (VCs) directly contribute to overall morbidity and mortality, especially in CKD.
