Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the relationship between appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASM) and the severity of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) in patients under 35 years old.
  • It found that individuals with MASLD had significantly lower ASM compared to those without MASLD, and that lower ASM was associated with worse liver-related outcomes.
  • Increased ASM was linked to a higher likelihood of steatosis regression and lower chances of worsening condition over time, suggesting that ASM plays an important role in the severity of MASLD in younger patients.

Introduction: Despite the emergence of atezolizumab and bevacizumab (A + B) as standard first-line systemic therapy for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a comprehensive understanding of the clinical significance of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) remains limited. We aimed to assess the impact of irAEs on patients with HCC undergoing A + B treatment.

Methods: This multicentre retrospective study included consecutive patients with HCC who were treated with the A + B regimen from September 2020 to December 2022.

HCC (Hepatocellular carcinoma) is the most common malignant tumor; however, the molecular pathogenesis of these tumors is not well understood. Sorafenib, an approved treatment for HCC, inhibits angiogenesis and tumor cell proliferation. However, only ~30% of patients are sensitive to sorafenib and most show disease progression, indicating resistance to sorafenib.
