Objective: The aim of the study is to assess the effect of an emergency department (ED) standardized clinical guideline for adolescent heavy menstrual bleeding on the rate of return ED visits and ED provider history-taking and management of this condition.
Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study. Patients less than 18 years old presenting to a single academic children's hospital ED between 2010 and 2020 with a chief complaint of heavy menstrual bleeding were included.
Background And Objectives: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) commonly causes hospitalization among US infants. A maternal vaccine preventing RSV in infants, RSV bivalent prefusion F maternal vaccine (RSVpreF), was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. Our objective was to evaluate the health benefits and cost-effectiveness of vaccinating pregnant persons in the United States using RSVpreF.

Objective: To investigate the 3-year outcomes of hearing intervention vs health education control on health-related quality of life.
Background And Objectives: Race and ethnicity are proxy measures of sociocultural factors that influence cognitive test performance. Our objective was to compare different regression-based cognitive normative models adjusting for demographics and different combinations of easily accessible/commonly used social determinants of health (SDoH) factors, which may help describe cognitive performance variability historically captured by ethnoracial differences.
Methods: We performed cross-sectional analyses on data from Black and White participants without mild cognitive impairment/dementia in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study who attended visit 5 in 2011-2013.
This study presents the first genome and transcriptome analyses for f. sp. (Fola) which causes Fusarium wilt disease of lettuce.

The anticancer effect of vitamin D in the fallopian tube epithelium (FTE), which is now thought to harbor the precursor cells for high grade ovarian cancer, is not known. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether vitamin D can inhibit carcinogenesis in the mogp-TAg fallopian tube (FT) ovarian cancer mouse model and examine underlying mechanisms.

In the kidney, Cyp24a1 is induced by 1,25(OH)2D3 and fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) and potently suppressed by PTH to control the circulating levels of 1,25(OH)2D3. Cyp24a1 is controlled by a pair of promoter proximal (PRO) vitamin D response elements (VDREs) that are aided by distal, downstream (DS) enhancers.

It is well established that platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1) serves as a physiological negative regulator of platelet-collagen interactions. We recently demonstrated that leukocyte-associated immunoglobulin-like receptor-1 (LAIR-1) is a negative regulator of platelet production and reactivity.

Here, we conducted a secondary analysis of the ACHIEVE Study to investigate the effect of hearing intervention on self-reported communicative function.
Methods: The ACHIEVE Study is a parallel-group, unmasked, randomized controlled trial of adults aged 70-84 years with untreated mild-to-moderate hearing loss and without substantial cognitive impairment.
Youth-onset type 2 diabetes is a heterogeneous disease with increasing prevalence in relation to increased rates of obesity in children. It has genetic, epigenetic, social, and environmental determinants. Youth-onset type 2 diabetes is alarming given a rapidly progressive course compared with the course of adult-onset disease, early-onset vascular complications, and long-term exposure to hyperglycemia and associated complications.

In the kidney, is induced by 1,25(OH)D, induced by FGF23, and potently suppressed by PTH to tightly control the circulating blood levels of 1,25(OH)D. This gene is believed to be under the control of a pair of classic promoter proximal (PRO) vitamin D response elements (VDREs) that are aided by distal, downstream (DS) containing enhancers that we identified more recently.

Background: Fatigue is a common complaint among older adults with hearing loss. The impact of addressing hearing loss on fatigue symptoms has not been studied in a randomized controlled trial. In a secondary analysis of the Aging and Cognitive Health Evaluation in Elders (ACHIEVE) study, we investigated the effect of hearing intervention versus health education control on 3-year change in fatigue in community-dwelling older adults with hearing loss.

AHS students report higher levels of substance use (SU) and face disproportionately higher levels of trauma and toxic stress than their traditional high school peers. We sought to examine whether generational immigration (GenIm) status modifies the association of mental health and SU among AHS students using a longitudinal study of 1,060 Southern California AHS students.

Methods: In this prospective cohort study, time-varying TBI was defined by self-report and International Classification of Disease diagnostic codes. Cognitive testing was performed at five visits over 30 years and scores were combined into a global cognition factor score.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is uncommon in China and the standard of care is underdeveloped, with limited utilization of disease-modifying treatment (DMT). An understanding of real-world disease burden (including direct medical, non-medical, and indirect costs, such as loss of productivity), is currently lacking in this population. To investigate the overall burden of managing patients with MS in China, a cross-sectional survey of physicians and their consulting patients with MS was conducted in 2021.

Research Design And Methods: We included 13,087 participants from the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study who were free from dementia at age 60 years.
The immune benefits of vitamin D3 supplementation beyond calcium and phosphate maintenance are highly clinically debated. Kidney expression of CYP27B1 is the source of endocrine, circulating 1,25(OH)2D3 (active form of vitamin D) that maintains serum calcium and phosphate. 1,25(OH)2D3 may also be made by the CYP27B1 enzyme in nonrenal cells, like immune cells, in a process driven by cellular availability of 25(OH)D3 and inflammation.

Methods: We analyzed neuropsychological testing results in dementia-free participants in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study. We examined associations of index domain-specific neuropsychological test performance with incident dementia using cumulative incidence curves and Cox proportional hazards models.
