Currently, there are more and more requests for a characterization of the health profile by populations living in areas affected by several types of environmental contaminations, notably for the presence of previously unknown and accidentally discovered landfills. The aim of the present paper is to describe the mortality profile of the residents of Piazzola sul Brenta (Veneto Region, Northern Italy). In this area, it was discovered an environmental contamination of the soil in the nearby of a large school building, where was formerly located a phosphate fertiliser plant.
