Ultrasonographic Assessment of Atherosclerotic Renal Artery Stenosis in Elderly Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease: An Italian Cohort Study.

Although atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis (ARAS) is strictly associated with high cardiovascular risk and mortality, it often may remain unrecognized being clinically silent and frequently masked by co-morbidities especially in elderly patients with coexisting chronic kidney disease (CKD). The present observational study was conducted in elderly CKD-patients with atherosclerosis on other arterial beds. The aims were assessment of (1) ARAS prevalence; (2) best predictor(s) of ARAS, using duplex ultrasound; and (3) cardiovascular and renal outcomes at one-year follow-up.

A rare case of bilateral testicular metastasis from ileocecal NET: multiparametric US detection.

Testicular metastasis are rare findings and bilateral metastasis of testes are extremely rare. Here we are describing for the first time a case of bilateral testicular metastasis in a patient with a known ileocecal valve NET using an in-depth ultra-sound studying including microvascular flow imaging (MV-flow), ultra-sound new technique, able to detect small vessel slow-signal.

Use of injectable collagen in partial-thickness tears of the supraspinatus tendon: a case report.

Management of partial-thickness rotator cuff tears is actually controversial. We treated a patient with a partial-thickness tear of the supraspinatus tendon by a series of four type I porcine collagen ultrasound-guided injections, at weekly intervals. At the same time the patient underwent physical therapy, consisting of motor re-education and proprioceptive exercises.

Multi-imaging study in a patient with cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis: radiology, clinic and pathology correlation of a rare condition.

Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX) is a rare metabolic disease with autosomal recessive inheritance. It is caused by mutations of the CYP27A1 gene, which codifies for sterol 27-hydroxylase, an enzyme that is responsible for the synthesis of cholic acids. In CTX, cholic acid synthesis is impaired, leading to accumulation of the precursor chenodessossicholic acid) in various organs and tissues.

MR imaging of paratesticular bilateral leiomyoma: A case report.

Paratesticular leiomyoma is a rare benign neoplasm that may arise from smooth muscle cells contained in either the epididymis, the spermatic cord, or the tunica albuginea. Usually patients present a palpable, asymptomatic mass, with a higher prevalence among the fourth and fifth decade of life. In this case report we describe a 57-year-old man with bilateral scrotal palpable masses evaluated with ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging that were suggestive for leiomyoma.

The occurrence of acute myocardial infarction in Italy: a five-year analysis of hospital discharge records.

Background: The incidence and costs of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in Europe represent a substantial problem due to population aging.

Methods: Between 2001 and 2005, Italian hospitalization records were examined to evaluate hospital admissions and costs of AMI in adults aged ≥ 45 and in elderly people ≥ 65 or ≥ 75. Hospital costs were calculated on the basis of Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs).

Early psoriatic arthritis: the clinical spectrum.

Objective: To characterize the clinical pattern of early psoriatic arthritis (PsA).

Methods: We studied 47 consecutive patients: 29 had definite PsA and 18 had the "sine psoriasis" subset. Inclusion criteria were articular and/or entheseal involvement of < or =12 weeks' duration and the exclusive use, before enrollment, of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs to control articular symptoms.
