Introduction: The aims of this study were to describe survival outcomes in patients with ovarian cancer aged ≥80 years and to explore predictors of poor prognosis.

Methods: We collected clinical, demographic, histologic, surgical and follow-up data for patients with ovarian cancer aged ≥80 years from a multicenter French cohort (FRANCOGYN) who underwent surgery from 1999 to 2019. Primary endpoints were overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS).

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on managing and understanding the survival rates of endometrial cancer patients aged 80 and older to identify indicators of poor prognosis.
  • Data was collected from a French cohort, revealing that 184 out of 1647 patients treated for endometrial cancer were senior citizens, with a median overall survival of 16.4 months.
  • Findings indicate that not using chemotherapy when indicated significantly correlated with worse survival outcomes, emphasizing the need for elderly patients to follow standard care guidelines for treatment.

Objective: To assess the surgical management and survival of severely obese patients with high-risk endometrial cancer.

Materials And Methods: Data from 269 patients with high-risk endometrial cancer who were treated between 2001 and 2018 were collected from a multicenter database (11 centers). We classified the patients according to their BMI and compared outcomes in two groups: a normal weight group of women with a BMI < 25 kg/m, and a severe obesity group of women with a BMI ≥ 35 kg/m.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates genetic factors linked to unexplained recurrent early miscarriage (REM) in unrelated women by comparing cases with high miscarriage rates to controls with successful pregnancies.
  • Whole exome sequencing identified a total of 209,387 genetic variants with no significant differences between groups, but highlighted specific genes associated with REM, including TCN2, which is related to vitamin B12 transport.
  • The results suggest a potential role of vitamin B12 in early pregnancy and identify new genes that may contribute to embryonic development processes relevant to REM.

Previous epidemiologic studies investigating central venous catheter (CVC)-related venous thromboembolism (CRT) were conducted in heterogenous cancer populations and data in breast cancer (BC) remain limited. To investigate the Doppler ultrasound (DUS)-CRT incidence, risk factors and outcomes in BC, we designed a prospective, multicenter cohort of nonmetastatic invasive BC patients undergoing insertion of a CVC for chemotherapy. All patients underwent double-blind DUS before, 7, 30, and 90 days after CVC insertion and a 6 months clinical follow-up.

Purpose To evaluate the efficacy of ultrasonographically (US)-guided percutaneous treatment of the trigger finger by releasing the A1 pulley with a 21-gauge needle. Materials and Methods This two-part study was approved by the ethics committee, and written consent was obtained from all patients. The first part consisted of 10 procedures on cadaver digits followed by dissection to analyze the effectiveness of the A1 pulley release and detect any collateral damage to the A2 pulley, interdigital nerves, or underlying flexor tendons.

Purpose: To determine the detection rate, the false-negative rate, and the accuracy of sentinel lymph node (SLN) detection after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) for advanced breast cancer.

Patients And Methods: A prospective multicentric study was initiated to evaluate the results of SLN biopsy with the combined method after NAC for advanced large operable breast cancer.

Results: From September 2003 to March 2007, 195 patients enrolled from 12 institutions were found suitable for evaluation.

This multicentric study presents 6 cases of Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome (deletion of 4p) detected after a sonographic prenatal diagnosis of early intrauterine growth retardation with fetal abnormalities. Standard karyotyping on regular G-banding during pregnancy was normal in half of the cases. Fortunately, the associated sonographic signs of a typical face, cystic cerebral lesions, midline fusion defects and bilateral renal hypoplasia may help to refine specific indications for high-resolution banding and molecular analysis by in situ hybridization.
