Telemetry monitoring (conventional cardiac monitoring system [CCMS]) is a universal method for postoperative arrhythmia detection; however, the clinical challenge of alarm fatigue, primarily associated with noise or cable disconnections, persists. The introduction of wireless continuous cardiac monitoring (WCCM) represents a potential solution to enhance recording fidelity. In Drosophila, miRNAs are predominantly loaded in Argonaute-1, which they guide for silencing of target RNAs. The miRNA pathway overlaps the RNAi pathway in this organism, as miRNAs may also associate with Argonaute-2, the mediator of RNAi.

Drosophila Gcn5 is the catalytic subunit of the SAGA and ATAC histone acetylase complexes. Here, we show that mutations in Gcn5 and the ATAC component Ada2a induce a decondensation of the male X chromosome, similar to that induced by mutations in the Iswi and Nurf301 subunits of the NURF nucleosome remodelling complex. Genetic studies as well as transcript profiling analysis indicate that ATAC and NURF regulate overlapping sets of target genes during development.

We have generated transgenic rabbits that express the entire human apoA-I/C-III/A-IV gene cluster. As in humans, h-apoA-I and h-apoC-III were expressed in liver and intestine, whereas h-apoA-IV mRNA was detected in intestine only. Transgenic rabbits had significantly higher plasma total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and total phospholipid concentrations than non-transgenic littermates.

Objective: Expression of human apolipoprotein (h-apo) A-IV in apoE-deficient (apoE(0)) mice (h-apoA-IV/E(0)) reduces susceptibility to atherosclerosis. Chronic infection mimicked by exposure to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) increases the size of atherosclerosis lesions in apoE(0) mice. Thus, we used h-apoA-IV/E(0) mice to determine whether h-apoA-IV plays a protective role after LPS administration.

Transferrin (Tf), the iron-transport protein of vertebrate serum, is mainly synthesized in hepatocytes but is also found in other cell-types including oligodendrocytes. Our laboratory has characterized in a human oligodendrial cell line the presence of a new Tf transcript containing an alternative exon 1b replacing the classical exon 1 and conducting to the elimination of the signal peptide sequence. In this manuscript, we show by RT-PCR and 5'-RACE experiments that alternative transcripts also exist in mouse and rat and are found in brain mRNA preparations.

The Interleukin Enhancer Binding Factor 3 (ILF3) gene has been mapped to chromosome 19 in humans and to chromosome 9 in mice. Several reported double-stranded RNA binding proteins including NF90, ILF3, MPP4 and DRBP76 have been suggested to be isoforms of the ILF3 gene but this has not been clearly established. We isolated several ilf3 transcripts from a melanoma cDNA library and two corresponding genomic fragments, and report alternative splicing and polyadenylation site selection in the human ILF3 gene.

In wild-type Streptomyces coelicolor MT1110 cultures, cyclic adenosine 3',5' monophosphate (cAMP) was synthesized throughout the developmental programme with peaks of accumulation both during germination and later when aerial mycelium and actinorhodin were being produced. Construction and characterization of an adenylate cyclase disruption mutant (BZ1) demonstrated that cAMP facilitated these developmental processes. Although pulse-labelling experiments showed that a similar germination process was initiated in BZ1 and MT1110, germ-tube emergence was severely delayed in BZ1 and never occurred in more than 85% of the spores.

We describe a bacterial two-hybrid system that allows an easy in vivo screening and selection of functional interactions between two proteins. This genetic test is based on the reconstitution, in an Escherichia coli cya strain, of a signal transduction pathway that takes advantage of the positive control exerted by cAMP. Two putative interacting proteins are genetically fused to two complementary fragments, T25 and T18, that constitute the catalytic domain of Bordetella pertussis adenylate cyclase.

A DNA fragment of Streptomyces coelicolor encoding the carboxy-terminal catalytic domain of adenylate cyclase was cloned, sequenced and expressed in an Escherichia coli cya-defective strain where it produced nanomole levels of cAMP. The amino acid sequence of the enzyme displays similarities with the Brevibacterium liquefaciens pyruvate regulated adenylate cyclase.

111 patients are studied in order to find possible relations between the endoscopic images and histopathological findings in the chronic maxillary sinusitis. The clasification of the different types of sinusitis is based on the aspect of the mucosa (normoplastic, hypoplastic, polypous, polypoido-polypous) and on the histological features (lymphoplasmocytic, eosinophilic, eosino-lymphoplasmocytic infiltration, low cellularity). The confrontation of the sinusoscopic and histopathological observations give interesting information, such as differenciation between stabilized and evolutive sinusitis, simple and complicated inflammation.
