Congenital pseudarthrosis of the forearm bones (CPFBs) is rare, with only 106 reported cases, and is frequently associated with neurofibromatosis (NF). Approximately 5% of patients with NF develop pseudarthrosis, and 50% of patients with pseudarthrosis have NF. Achieving bone union is difficult in congenital pseudarthrosis.

A 50-year-old, right-hand dominant woman presented with a seven-month history of stiffness, pain and swelling on the ulnar side of her right wrist. She had undergone right wrist arthroplasty with a Pyrocarbon Amandys implant seven months previously for post-traumatic degenerative arthritis. She had an uneventful initial recovery until developing carpal tunnel syndrome, for which she underwent carpal tunnel release 5 months after her arthroplasty.

Many living species of golden moles (Chrysochloridae) have greatly enlarged middle ear ossicles, believed to be used in the detection of ground vibrations through inertial bone conduction. Other unusual features of chrysochlorids include internally coupled middle ear cavities and the loss of the tensor tympani muscle. Background And Purpose: There have recently been highly publicized examples of suboptimal outcomes with some newer implant designs used for total hip replacement. This has led to calls for tighter regulation. However, surgeons do not always adhere to the regulations already in place and often use implants from different manufacturers together to replace a hip, which is against the recommendations of the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and the directions of the manufacturers.

Paediatric toe-to-hand transfer: an assessment of outcomes from a single unit.

Unlabelled: Toe-to-hand transfer is an acceptable treatment option for children born with absent digits. Toe transfer can provide functionally useful digits and may enhance patient wellbeing. A total of 19 children had 31 free second-toe-to-hand microsurgical transfers between 1998 and 2012.

Results of syndactyly release using a modification of the Flatt technique.

The results of 144 congenital syndactyly releases over a 12-year period by a single surgeon using a modified Flatt technique (dorsal hourglass flap, interdigitating zigzag flaps, and full-thickness skin grafts) are analyzed considering the association of skin grafts and web creep. The mean follow-up was 5 years. There were seven cases of graft failure, only one of which developed web creep.

Standard Operating Procedure for In-house Preparation of (131)I-rituximab for Radioimmunotherapy of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been formulated for in-house preparation, quality control, dispensing and administration of (131)I-rituximab appropriate for the safe, effective, radioimmunotherapy of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. A decade of experience of semi-automated radioiodination of rituximab in our hospital radiopharmaceutical laboratory was analysed. The methodology was then refined for safe, practical, affordable application to radioimmunotherapy of lymphoma in departments of nuclear medicine in developing countries.

Introduction: Mismatches in the thickness of subcutaneous fat at the level of the umbilicus and suprapubic region can result in an unsightly bulge and an unfavourable result following standard abdominoplasty. This problem can be avoided by thinning the abdominoplasty flap. This study was carried out to assess the thickness of the subcutaneous fat layer at the level of the umbilicus and the supra-pubic region.

This review article assesses recent therapeutic studies from January 2010 to August 2012. These were rated for levels of evidence, trial quality using the Jadad and Detsky scales, and graded by strength of recommendation.

Pyrolytic carbon arthroplasty for the proximal interphalangeal joint: results after minimum 3 years of follow-up.

A retrospective study was undertaken to review the outcomes of a consecutive series of patients treated using pyrocarbon surface replacement arthroplasty by the same surgeon. We analyzed the results of this procedure in 24 proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joints in 19 hands of 16 patients. The minimum follow-up was 3 years.
