Immunotherapy in cervix cancer.

The treatment approach to cervix cancer has remained unchanged for several decades and new therapeutic strategies are now required to improve outcomes, as the prognosis is still poor. In the last years, a better understanding of HPV tumor-host immune system interactions and the development of new therapeutics targeting immune checkpoints generated interest in the use of immunotherapy in cervix cancer. Preliminary phase I-II trials demonstrated the efficacy, the duration of responses and the manageable safety of this approach.

Analysis of different European hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) cultivars: authentication, phenotypic features, and phenolic profiles.

Hazelnuts exhibit functional properties due to their content in fatty acids and phenolic compounds that could positively affect human health. The food industry requires precise traits for morphological, chemical, and physical kernel features so that some cultivars could be more suitable for specific industrial processing. In this study, agronomical and morphological features of 29 hazelnut cultivars were evaluated and a detailed structural characterization of kernel polyphenols was performed, confirming the presence of protocatechuic acid, flavan-3-ols such as catechin, procyanidin B2, six procyanidin oligomers, flavonols, and one dihydrochalcone in all the analyzed cultivars.

A PCR based SNPs marker for specific characterization of English walnut (Juglans regia L.) cultivars.

English walnut (Juglans regia L.) is the most economically important species from all the 21 species belonging to the genus Juglans and is an important and healthy food as well as base material for timber industry. The aim of this study was to develop a simple technique for specific characterization of English walnut using DNA method.

[Intrathoracic hemangiopericytoma localized in the mediastinum].

The paper reports a case of intrathoracic hemangiopericytoma localised in mediastinum which was brought to the authors attention and treated surgically. Having analysed the tumour's macro- and microscopic histological and biological features and the most suitable methods of diagnosis, the authors stress that, in line with international literature, radical surgery extended to the surrounding tissues is the elective surgical treatment for hemangiopericytoma in a mediastinal site.

[Hamartochondroma of the lung. Apropos 11 cases].

The authors take the opportunity of 11 cases of pulmonary hamartomas observed during the last 10 years, to specify the clinical and diagnostic problems and the therapeutic possibilities of this rare pulmonary neoplasm. The hamartochondroma is found mainly in the male sex, between the age of the fifth and sixth decades of life; the size of the neoplasm varies from 2 to 4 cm, rarely exceeding 10 cm. In 8 cases the operation was the simple enucleation of the hamartochondroma or its removal by atypical resection: in only one case, become of the conspicuous dimensions of the neoplasm, was it necessary to perform a typical lobectomy.

[A proposal of a new histological method for the dynamic diagnosis of the disease stage in oral lichen planus].

The paper describes a histological fixing and staining technique capable of identifying the stage of disease in oral lichen planus. This is based on staining the nuclei on the basal stratum blue instead of red-orange as normally occurs using Mallory's technique. Under particular conditions of increased cellular protein synthesis these become a typical blue colour.

[The pathogenesis of lichen planus. Experimental research on the significance of HLA-DR antigenic expression by keratinocytes].

The incidence and distribution of keratinocytes expressing the major histocompatibility complex antigen HLA-DR were determined in lesions of oral lichen planus. The authors examine the condition, but its functional significance remains unknown.

Microleakage of class V restorations in posterior teeth was studied, using different types of materials and cavity varnish. Significantly less microleakage was recorded by applying some layers of cavity varnish and using spherical alloy.

Aged gutta-percha filling cones become brittle and unsuitable for use; a technique was published for reducing their fragility, thus "rejuvenating" them. The Authors study this technique in five different cone brands, but only 30% of cones made usable.

The Authors point out principal patology find on 354 childs, among these result prevalent incidence of caries and occlusal patology. The Authors emphasize scarce importance assigned to primary dentition by examined population.

[Modified vertical condensation using warm gutta percha].

The Authors describe a new technique of endodontic obturation using thermoplasticized guttapercha; the first results, studied with a diaphanic method, suggest that this technique gives a full obturation of endodontic system.

[Critical analysis of the composition of endodontic cements].

The AA. discuss the problem of composition of root canal sealers; they precise the role and utility of single ingredients. They conclude that root canal sealers contain many unnecessary or harmful compoundings, as paraformaldehyde; so it's necessary to reduce the amount of root canal sealers introduced in the endodontic system.

[Cranial base in patients with cleft lip and palate].

The AA. discuss the problem of morphology of cranial base in children with cleft lip and palate, using a cephalometric appraisal. They record the data from 28 patients with cleft and from 30 normal children; the linear dimensions from nasion to sella and sella to basion are significantly reduced in the cleft lip and palate group, while cranial base angulation doesn't differ between the cleft sample and the control group.
