This work describes an innovative catalytic process for aqueous trimethoprim degradation, using a fixed-bed continuous flow reactor packed with a manganese(III) -substituted porphyrin covalently immobilized functionalized aminopropyl silica gel as the catalyst and HO as a green oxidant. It exhibits remarkable activity and stability, maintaining its performance over extended periods (up to 8 hours) and achieving significant reductions in total organic carbon (TOC = 80%). Importantly, microbiological assays confirmed that this degradation process effectively converts trimethoprim into non-resistance-inducing products.

The choice of coformers took into account their potential to increase the aqueous solubility/dissolution rate of TMP or its antibacterial activity. All the binary systems were characterized by thermal analysis, powder X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy, and 3 equimolar systems with FTIR pointing to salts, and 4 eutectic mixtures were identified.

The second one was to verify the possible differences in repolarization and hemodynamic data between CHF patients grouped by level of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). Finally, we wanted to check if repolarization and hemodynamic data changed with clinical improvement or worsening in CHF patients.

Antibiotics development during the last century permitted unprecedent medical advances. However, it is undeniable that there has been an abuse and misuse of antimicrobials in medicine and cosmetics, food production and food processing, in the last decades. The pay toll for human development and consumism is the emergence of extended antimicrobial resistance and omnipresent contamination of the biosphere.

Create a new map of the duration of atrial bipolar electrograms (Atrial Electrogram DUration Map, AEDUM) to recognize a functional substrate during sinus rhythm and guide a patient-tailored ablative strategy for PsAF.
Methods: Forty PsAF subjects were assigned in a 1:1 ratio to either for PVI alone (Group B) or PVI+AEDUM areas ablation (Group B).
Exposure to pesticides is inevitable in modern times, and their environmental presence is strongly associated to the development of various malignancies. This challenge has prompted an increased interest in finding more sustainable ways of degrading pesticides. Advanced oxidation processes in particular appear as highly advantageous, due to their ability of selectively removing chemical entities form wastewaters.

Case: We describe a 79 year old men affected by sudden onset hemichoreic movements whose cause was a non-ketotic hyperglycaemia diagnosed despite the normal blood glucose levels thanks to brain CT and magnetic resonance imaging.
Unlabelled: Aging and chronic heart failure (CHF) are responsible for the temporal inhomogeneity of the electrocardiogram (ECG) repolarization phase. Recently, some short period repolarization-dispersion parameters have been proposed as markers of acute decompensation and of mortality risk in CHF patients. Some important differences in repolarization between sexes are known, but their impact on ECG markers remains unstudied.

The ventricular electrograms duration map (VEDUM) is a potential method to identify areas (VEDUM area) with slow and inhomogeneous activation. There is no available data on the characteristics and the arrhythmogenic role of VEDUM areas identified during sinus/paced rhythm.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the use, effectiveness and safety of intravenous (IV) brivaracetam (BRV) in the treatment of SC.
Methods: Retrospective multicentric study of patients with SC (≥ 2 seizures/24 h) who received IV BRV.
Acutely decompensated chronic heart failure (adCHF) is among the most important causes of in-hospital mortality. R-wave peak time (RT) or delayed intrinsicoid deflection was proposed as a risk marker of sudden cardiac death and heart failure decompensation. Authors want to verify if QR interval or RT, obtained from 12-lead standard ECG and during 5-min ECG recordings (II lead), could be useful to identify adCHF.

Therefore, some non-invasive, electrocardiographic markers are capable to stratify the risk of sudden death at rest and during light mental challenge [mini-mental state examination (MMSE) administration].
Method: We compared short period RR, QT and Te intervals variability in 42 candidates to and 12 age-matched hypertensive control patients at rest and during mental challenge.
Herein we describe the design of natural curcumin ester and ether derivatives and their application as potential bioplasticizers, to prepare photosensitive phthalate-free PVC-based materials. The preparation of PVC-based films incorporating several loadings of newly synthesized curcumin derivatives along with their standard solid-state characterization is also described. Remarkably, the plasticizing effect of the curcumin derivatives in the PVC material was found to be similar to that observed in previous PVC-phthalate materials.

It has been shown that the efficiency of this dual antimicrobial therapy is highly dependent on the structure of the photosensitizer, being tetrapyrrolic macrocycles the ones with most promising results. There are a few review articles in the recent literature describing the main microbiological results concerning this dual inactivation of bacteria, but none of them focus on the synthetic processes of these photosensitizers and their remarkable chemical versatility.

A total of 65 in-hospital patients (M/F:35/30) were enrolled, 39 with HFrEF and 26 HFpEF, in New York Heart Association (NYHA) class IV. Stroke volume (SVI), cardiac indexes (CI), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEFBIO), end diastolic volume (LV-EDV), and other systolic and diastolic parameters were noninvasively obtained at enrollment and at hospital discharge.

Hypothesis: The aim of this study was to assess if the electrocardiographic short period markers of repolarization temporal dispersion could be predictive of the hospital stay length and mortality in patients with acutely decompensated chronic heart failure (CHF).
Method: Mean, standard deviation (SD), and normalized variance (VN) of QT (QT) and Tpeak-Tend (Te) were obtained on 5-min ECG recording in 139 patients hospitalized for acutely decompensated CHF, subgrouping the patients for hospital length of stay (LoS): less or equal 1 week (≤1 W) and those with more than 1 week (>1 W).
Objectives: Aging and chronic heart failure (CHF) are responsible for the temporal inhomogeneity of electrocardiogram (ECG) repolarization phase. In the past, short period repolarization-dispersion parameters were used as makers of mortality risk in different heart diseases, yet. Aim of this work was to evaluate risk of mortality or worsening condition in CHF elderly subjects by mean of these repo-larization variables.

Aim of this study was to evaluate the 30-day mortality risk in decompensated CHF patients by fasting glucose plasma level and some repolarization ECG markers.
Method: A total of 164 decompensated CHF patients (M/F: 94/71; mean age, 83 ± 10 years) were studied; Tend (Te), QT interval (QT) and 5 min of ECG recordings were obtained, studying mean, SD and normalized index of the abovementioned ECG intervals.
Laparoscopic ventral hernia repair (LVHR) is a widely practiced treatment for primary (PH) and incisional (IH) hernias, with acceptable outcomes. Prevention of recurrence is crucial and still highly debated. Purpose of this study was to evaluate predictive factors of recurrence following LVHR with intraperitoneal onlay mesh with a single type of mesh for both PH and IH.

We show that cross-linking has advantages over coating when aiming to functionalize the scaffolds with HA. The here described scaffolds structurely mimicked the complexity of the extracellular matrix, and when excited by second harmonic generation, they produced a signal that is typical of collagen-containing biological fibers.
