Early outcomes with a hybrid technique for repair of a non-A non-B aortic dissection.

Objective: This study reports the early outcomes of patients with acute non-A non-B aortic dissection that involved the aortic arch but not the ascending aorta.

Methods: From January 2013 to December 2018, 825 patients presented with aortic dissection. Of these, 28 patients with non-A non-B dissection (classified as dissection extending into the aortic arch with entry between the left common carotid artery and the left subclavian arteries) underwent a novel hybrid surgery.

The protective effect of 3% diquafosol on meibomian gland morphology in glaucoma patients treated with prostaglandin analogs: a 12-month follow-up study.

Background: To determine if 3% diquafosol (DQS) can preserve the meibomian gland morphology in glaucoma patients treated with prostaglandin analogs (PGA) for a 12-month follow-up period.

Methods: This study included 84 eyes of 46 normal tension glaucoma (NTG) patients who were treated with either preservative-containing PGA (PC-PGA; 16 patients, 28 eyes), preservative-free PGA (PF-PGA; 21 patients, 39 eyes), or a combination of PC-PGA and 3% DQS (PC-PGA + DQS; 9 patients, 17 eyes). The meibography of the upper eyelid was acquired using Keratograph® 5 M at baseline and at each follow-up (1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months).

While changes in serum N-glycans have been observed as patients progress from liver fibrosis/cirrhosis to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the predictive performance of N-glycans is yet to be determined for HCC early diagnosis as well as differential diagnosis from liver fibrosis/cirrhosis. In a total sample of 247 patients with hepatitis B virus-related liver disease, we characterized and compared the serum N-glycans in very early/early and intermediate/advanced stages of HCC and those with liver fibrosis/cirrhosis.

Patients And Methods: The subjects were 30 eyes of 30 adult patients with primary open-angle glaucoma, normal-tension glaucoma, or ocular hypertension who were using a latanoprost-/timolol-fixed combination with insufficient intraocular pressure-lowering efficacy or adverse reactions. The subjects were switched from once-daily latanoprost/timolol to once-daily latanoprost/carteolol with no washout interval.

Objective To investigate whether the recombinant pyrin domain protein can alleviate the airway inflammation and airway remodeling of OVA-induced mice with chronic asthma by inhibiting transforming growth factor β1(TGF-β1)/SMAD and Jagged1/Notch1 signaling pathways. Methods Thirty-two male BALB/c mice were selected and divided into 4 groups with 8 mice in each group. The four groups were the control group, OVA model group, recombinant pyrin domain protein treatment group (100 μg/kg), and the dexamethasone treatment group (1 mg/kg).

Understanding of ultrafast spin dynamics is crucial for future spintronic applications. In particular, the role of non-thermal electrons needs further investigation in order to gain a fundamental understanding of photoinduced demagnetization and remagnetization on a femtosecond time scale. We experimentally demonstrate that non-thermal electrons existing in the very early phase of the photoinduced demagnetization process play a key role in governing the overall ultrafast spin dynamics behavior.

The N-terminal truncated carboxypeptidase E (CPEΔN) protein, an alternative splicing product of the carboxypeptidase E gene, has recently been recognized as an independent predictor for the recurrence and metastasis of lung adenocarcinoma. In this study, we showed that CPEΔN may accelerate lung cancer invasion via an E-cadherin-dependent mechanism. experiments and bioluminescence imaging assay revealed CPEΔN promoted the mobility and invasion of human lung cancer cells by suppressing endogenous expression of E-cadherin, a critical regulator for epithelial tissue homeostasis.

We investigated the relationship between microstructure of β-parapapillary atrophy (β-PPA) and morphologic features of optic nerve head (ONH) and posterior pole in highly myopic eyes. Eighty-nine highly myopic eyes were included in this study. Bruch's membrane opening (BMO) area, lamina cribrosa (LC) thickness, anterior laminar depth, peripapillary and subfoveal choroidal thickness (CT), macular Bruch's membrane (BM) length, and width of β-PPA with and without Bruch's membrane (PPA and PPA) were evaluated.

Association of macular thickness with parapapillary atrophy in myopic eyes.

Background: To investigate whether macular structure could be affected by axial elongation and to determine the association between macular intraretinal thickness and the microstructure of β-zone parapapillary atrophy (PPA) in myopic eyes.

Methods: The study recruited 113 healthy myopic subjects (113 eyes). Images of the macula, subfoveal choroid, and optic nerve head were acquired using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT).

Background: Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) can increase populations of myeloid-derived suppressor cells, innate immune suppressors that play an immunoregulatory role in antitumor immunity. However, the roles of myeloid-derived suppressor cells and G-CSF in renal ischemia-reperfusion injury remain unclear.

Methods: We used mouse models of ischemia-reperfusion injury to investigate whether G-CSF can attenuate renal injury by increasing infiltration of myeloid-derived suppressor cells into kidney tissue.

Source Tracking and Risk Assessment of Pharmaceutical and Personal Care Products in Surface Waters of Qingdao, China, with Emphasis on Influence of Animal Farming in Rural Areas.

The occurrence and potential sources of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in surface waters from a large coastal city Qingdao, North China, were investigated. Forty-five compounds were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The results showed that 28 compounds of PPCPs were detected.
