The literature regarding offending in the learning disabled population is limited; the effects of normalisation and deinstitutionalisation on offending behaviour is not yet determined. We retrospectively examined 93 court reports completed by the Tayside learning disability service since 1986. Twenty patients were not considered to be learning disabled.

Background: The red blood cells (RBCs) of a patient, known to have the probable DC(W)(e)/D-- phenotype, typed as D(W)- and Rh32- but were unexpectedly agglutinated by an anti-D(W)/Rh32 serum. The reactivity suggested that the RBCs carried a novel antigen and that the molecular background of this DC(W)(e)/D-- phenotype might be different from those reported. The purpose of this study was to determine the molecular basis of the Rh phenotype.

Background: Accurate typing of a patient's RBCs in the setting of prior transfusion or a hemolytic transfusion reaction is crucial in the selection of compatible blood but is time consuming, technically difficult, and sometimes impossible. To address this problem, a simple, rapid, and inexpensive quantitative PCR method was developed to identify the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of the Kidd blood group. We applied this method in a clinical investigation of 54 multiple-transfusion patients.
