How do clinical placements influence the career decisions of new-graduate physiotherapists in Australia? A qualitative exploration.

Background: The variables that contribute to positive and negative experiences of clinical education amongst student physiotherapists are well established. Multiple stakeholders are invested in the ongoing success of physiotherapy clinical placements given workforce challenges within the profession and the emerging relationship between clinical placements and new-graduate recruitment. However, little is known about the relationship between clinical placement experiences and the career decisions of new-graduate physiotherapists.

Identifying and navigating suspected serious pathologies: New-graduate physiotherapists' perspectives and developmental needs.

Background: Physiotherapists in Australia play a vital first-contact role in identifying suspected serious pathologies and navigating their management pathways. Current literature highlights challenges faced by physiotherapists including implications of ineffective identification and management of suspected serious pathologies, yet the perspectives of new-graduate physiotherapists related to this area of practice remain unknown.

Objective: The aim of this study was to explore new-graduate physiotherapists' perspectives and developmental needs related to identifying suspected serious pathologies and navigating their management pathways in patients with musculoskeletal complaints.

In vitro quantification of pigment production and transfer in 2D co-cultures and 3D skin organotypic.

Here, we present a protocol to set up and study 2D keratinocyte-melanocyte co-cultures and 3D full-thickness human skin equivalents. We describe steps for culturing of keratinocyte and melanocyte lines and the establishment of both 2D and 3D co-cultures. The cultures are utilized to measure melanin content and investigate mechanisms driving melanin production and transfer, through flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry.

Comparison of Roche blood culture bottle with an in-house conventional blood culture system.

A comparison was made of the in-use performance of an in-house broth blood culture in a general hospital during 8 mths in 1988 with that of a commercial biphasic culture (BCB system, Roche Products Pty Ltd, Sydney) for the corresponding period in 1989. The clinical services and the number of blood samples tested were comparable. The yields of organisms after 48 hrs incubation were similar in both systems.

The microbiology of peritonitis in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis--experience in a provincial centre 1986-1989.

Laboratory procedures for isolating the causative microbe from infected effluent in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) are still being refined. Our recovery rate from culturing centrifuged deposits of 10 mL of fluid averaged 55% for leukocytotic fluids from 1986 to 1989, a little lower than the published reports using blood culture methods. A combined use of spun deposit and blood culture broth should improve the yield without excessive cost in time and labor.

Intra ocular lens implantation: a full circle.

Four hundred cases of intra ocular lens implantation of the posterior chamber variety were analysed. Operative and post operative complications were minimal. Testing of visual acuity after surgery produced good results.
