The interplay of climate change, upstream hydropower development, and local water engineering interventions for agricultural production contributes substantially to the transformation of waterscapes and water scarcity in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta. This paper aims to examine how these dynamics are linked to the paradigm shift in water management in An Giang and Ben Tre, the two ecologically distinct provinces that face serious water scarcity in the delta. We used the adaptive management concept to examine how state-led policy directions from food security towards water security enable change in water management that gives priority to water retention.

TAURUS was designed to primarily investigate weekly prophylaxis dosing regimens used in standard clinical practice.
Objectives: The aim of the Patient preferences to Assess Value IN Gene therapies (PAVING) study was to investigate trade-offs that adult Belgian people with haemophilia (PWH) A and B are willing to make when choosing between prophylactic factor replacement therapy (PFRT) and gene therapy.
Methods: The threshold technique was used to quantify the minimum acceptable benefit (MAB) of a switch from PFRT to gene therapy in terms of 'Annual bleeding rate' (ABR), 'Chance to stop prophylaxis' (STOP), and 'Quality of life' (QOL). The design was supported by stakeholder involvement and included an educational tool on gene therapy.

This study assesses the use of serum calprotectin (sCal) as a marker to monitor disease activity, and as a classification and prognosis tool of response to treatment or risk of flares in patients with JIA.
Methods: Eighty-one patients with JIA from the CAP48 multicentric cohort were included in this study, as well as 11 non-paediatric healthy controls.

To benefit from the diverse functionalities of perovskite oxides in silicon-based complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology, integrating oxides into a silicon platform has become one of the major tasks for oxide research. Using the deposition of LaMnO/SrTiO (STO) superlattices (SLs) as a case study, we demonstrate that (001) single oriented oxide SLs can be integrated on Si using various template techniques, including a single-layer buffer of STO prepared by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) and pulsed laser deposition, a multilayer buffer of Y-stabilized zirconia/CeO/LaNiO/STO, and STO-coated two-dimensional nanosheets of CaNbO (CNO) and reduced graphene oxide. The textured SL grown on STO-coated CNO nanosheets shows the highest crystallinity, owing to the small lattice mismatch between CNO and STO as well as less clamping from a Si substrate.

This paper presents a novel method to estimate systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) from time domain features extracted from auscultatory waveforms (AWs) and using a Gaussian Mixture Models and Hidden Markov Model (GMM-HMM) classification approach. The three time domain features selected include the cuff pressure (CP), the energy of the Korotkoff pulses (KE), and the slope of the KE (SKE). The proposed GMM-HMM can effectively discover the latent structure in AW sequences and automatically learn such structures.

Assuming that classical auscultatory sphygmomanometry provides the best approximation to intra-arterial pressure, the results obtained from oscillometric measurements for a range of characteristic ratios are compared against a modified auscultatory method to determine an optimum characteristic ratio, Rs for systolic blood pressure (SBP), which was found to be 0.565.

We introduce a new method to record and convert Korotkoff sounds to a high fidelity sound file which can be replayed under optimal conditions by multiple operators, for the independent determination of systolic and diastolic pressure points.
Approach: We have developed a digitised data base of 643 NIBP records from 216 subjects.
Background: Asparaginase (Asp) and corticosteroid (CS) treatment in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) is associated with an increased risk of thrombotic events.
Objective: Characterization of global haemostatic phenotypes of patients with ALL during Asp therapy.
Procedure: Thrombin generation (TG) was monitored in platelet-poor plasma of 56 children treated for a B lineage ALL (36 with native, 20 with PEG Asp) using 1 pM tissue factor and 4 μM phospholipids, with and without thrombomodulin.
Objective: To evaluate the survival of patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) recorded in the Belgian SCD Registry and to assess the impact of disease-modifying treatments (DMT).
Method: The Registry created in 2008 included patients of eight centers. All available data in 2008 were retrospectively encoded in the database.

Despite improvements in medical management, sickle cell disease (SCD) remains associated with severe morbidity and decreased survival. Allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) remains the only curative approach. We report the outcome of 50 consecutive children with severe SCD that received HSCT in our unit between November 1988 and April 2013.
