Background/objectives: Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in men. The increase in incidence rates of more advanced and aggressive forms of the disease year-to-year fuels urgency to find new therapeutic interventions and bolster already established ones. Purpose: Transgender women are disproportionately affected by HIV and are underutilizing preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP). The lower uptake of PrEP by transgender women may be, in part, owing to the perception that taking PrEP may lower the efficacy of gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) or to provider concerns that GAHT may lower the efficacy of PrEP.

Methods: DISCOVER was a randomized, double-blind, noninferiority trial comparing emtricitabine (FTC, F) and tenofovir alafenamide (F/TAF) versus emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (F/TDF) as PrEP among transgender women and cisgender men who have sex with men (MSM).

We study experimentally and theoretically the in-plane magnetic field dependence of the coupling between dots forming a vertically stacked double dot molecule. The InAsP molecule is grown epitaxially in an InP nanowire and interrogated optically at millikelvin temperatures. The strength of interdot tunneling, leading to the formation of the bonding-antibonding pair of molecular orbitals, is investigated by adjusting the sample geometry.

Introduction: Knowledge about the factors that contribute to the correctional officer's (CO) mental health and well-being, or best practices for improving the mental health and well-being of COs, have been hampered by the dearth of rigorous longitudinal studies. In the current protocol, we share the approach used in the Canadian Correctional Workers' Well-being, Organizations, Roles and Knowledge study (CCWORK), designed to investigate several determinants of health and well-being among COs working in Canada's federal prison system.

Methods And Analysis: CCWORK is a multiyear longitudinal cohort design (2018-2023, with a 5-year renewal) to study 500 COs working in 43 Canadian federal prisons.

We present a compact, fibre-coupled single photon source using gradient-index (GRIN) lenses and an InAsP semiconductor quantum dot embedded within an InP photonic nanowire waveguide. A GRIN lens assembly is used to collect photons close to the tip of the nanowire, coupling the light immediately into a single mode optical fibre. The system provides a stable, high brightness source of fibre-coupled single photons.

Birefringence in optical fibers poses a challenge to controllably delivering polarized light. Strain-induced birefringence caused by bends in the fiber, vibrations, or a large temperature gradient can significantly alter the polarization, making it particularly difficult to deliver polarization states to low-temperature environments by fiber. In this paper, we investigate the transmission of polarized light through a fiber and discuss a method we have developed for delivering arbitrarily polarized light to the base stage of a dilution refrigerator using a standard optical fiber.

The Anacostia River, a tributary of the Potomac River that flows into the Chesapeake Bay, is highly contaminated with raw sewage, heavy metals, oil and grease, trash, pathogens, excessive sediments, and organic chemicals. Despite this contamination, recreation on the river is very popular, including kayaking, canoeing, rowing, and sport fishing. There is currently no information available on the potential health risks faced by recreational users from exposure to the river's pollutants.

In Part I in this issue, modeling was used to identify a Housing Assessment Tool (HAT) that can be used to predict relative intervention effectiveness for a range of intervention intensities and baseline dust lead loadings in occupied dwellings. The HAT predicts one year post-intervention floor and windowsill loadings and the probability that these loadings will exceed current federal lead hazard standards. This article illustrates the field application of the HAT, helping practitioners determine the minimum intervention intensity needed to reach "acceptable" one year post-intervention levels, with acceptability defined based on specific project needs, local needs, regulations, and resource constraints.

Autism is a behaviorally defined neurodevelopmental disorder of unknown etiology. Mouse models with face validity to the core symptoms offer an experimental approach to test hypotheses about the causes of autism and translational tools to evaluate potential treatments. We discovered that the inbred mouse strain BTBR T+tf/J (BTBR) incorporates multiple behavioral phenotypes relevant to all three diagnostic symptoms of autism.

We have applied the Cavalieri method of modern design stereology with magnetic resonance imaging for estimating the volume of whole-body muscle and fat compartments in four patients with muscular dystrophy, a patient with myopathy, five controls, an anorexic subject, and a body builder. Detailed systematic series (ie, 50) of axial MR images (T1-weighted, TR/TE 400/10 msec) were obtained throughout the whole body of each subject. The results showed that 15, 20, and 35 axial sections through the body are sufficient to secure coefficients of error (CEs) on the estimates of total muscle and fat volume of around 10%, 5%, and 3% respectively in muscular dystrophy patients and controls.

A patient-blind study into the effect of a 10-week cessation of long-term vitamin B6 supplementation on B6 status and performance in McArdle's disease is reported. Muscle performance was assessed both subjectively and objectively by an ischaemic fatiguing protocol of the adductor pollicis muscle. Nine weeks after withdrawal of supplementation, vitamin B6 status had changed from adequacy to inadequacy and the force loss during the ischaemic fatiguing protocol had increased at all frequencies studied.
