Reintroduction of amiodarone in patients with a history of amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis (AIT) is rarely used. To date, the risk of AIT recurrence after amiodarone reintroduction is unpredicted. The aim of the study was to evaluate the risk of AIT recurrence.

Objective: Due to a strong genotype-phenotype correlation, the timing of prophylactic thyroidectomy in rearranged during transfection (RET) gene mutation carriers is usually dictated by genetic analysis.

Subjects And Methods: We report a nationwide retrospective study of the clinical data of 77 French patients from 19 families with a mutation in codon 790 of the RET proto-oncogene.

Results: The average age at diagnosis was 35.

Context: Germline mutations in SDHx genes cause hereditary paraganglioma.

Objective: The aim of the study was to assess the indications for succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) genetic testing in a prospective study.

Design: A total of 445 patients with head and neck and/or thoracic-abdominal or pelvic paragangliomas were recruited over 5 yr in 20 referral centers.

The increased risk of cardiovascular mortality in patients with inflammatory joint disease indicates a need for routine investigations to detect conventional cardiovascular risk factors. These investigations may provide the classification of the disease. We report a case of oligoarticular arthritis with type IV hyperlipoproteinemia, a condition of which only 15 cases are described in the literature.

The present study was carried out to assess the effects of protease inhibitor (PI) therapy on basal whole body protein metabolism and its response to acute amino acid-glucose infusion in 14 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients. Patients treated with PIs (PI+, 7 patients) or without PIs (PI-, 7 patients) were studied after an overnight fast during a 180-min basal period followed by a 140-min period of amino acid-glucose infusion. Protein metabolism was investigated by a primed constant infusion of l-[1-(13)C]leucine.

We have examined the effect of a medroxyprogesterone therapy in HIV-infected patients under appropriate nutrition for anabolism. The experiments were performed on 12 men (mean age 40 y), HIV seropositive but free of any clinically active opportunistic infection for at least one month. The patients underwent a 2-week baseline diet period (1.

Control of cortisol secretion by the abnormal expression of the gastric inhibitory polypeptide receptor (GIP-R) have been observed in some rare cases of ACTH-independent, food-dependent Cushing's syndrome (FD-ACS) due to adrenal adenoma (AA) or bilateral macronodular hyperplasia (AIMAH). This study was performed to determine the prevalence of GIP-R ectopic expression in ACS and its correlation with fasting cortisol levels. GIP-R expression was studied by RT-PCR in 30 unilateral adrenal tumors [16 AA and 14 adrenocortical cancer (AC)] and 8 AIMAH tissues.
