European registry of babies born to mothers with antiphospholipid syndrome.

Objectives: This study aimed to describe the long-term outcome and immunological status of children born to mothers with antiphospholipid syndrome, to determine the factors responsible for childhood abnormalities, and to correlate the child's immunological profile with their mothers.

Methods: A prospective follow-up of a European multicentre cohort was conducted. The follow-up consisted of clinical examination, growth data, neurodevelopmental milestones and antiphospholipid antibodies (APL) screening.

Face mask ventilation in edentulous patients: a comparison of mandibular groove and lower lip placement.

Background: In edentulous patients, it may be difficult to perform face mask ventilation because of inadequate seal with air leaks. Our aim was to ascertain whether the "lower lip" face mask placement, as a new face mask ventilation method, is more effective at reducing air leaks than the standard face mask placement.

Methods: Forty-nine edentulous patients with inadequate seal and air leak during two-hand positive-pressure ventilation using the ventilator circle system were prospectively evaluated.

High-resolution computed tomographic imaging of airways in sarcoidosis patients with airflow obstruction.

Objective: To investigate airway involvement in patients with pulmonary sarcoidosis and airflow obstruction (AO) using high-resolution computed tomography.

Methods: Forty-two sarcoidosis patients with AO and 42 matched sarcoidosis patients without AO were retrospectively analyzed. High-resolution computed tomographic patterns of airway involvement were bronchial distortion, peribronchovascular thickening, small airway obstruction, and bronchial compression by enlarged lymph nodes.

Vascular endothelial growth factor-C and its receptor VEGFR-3 in non-small-cell lung cancer: concurrent expression in cancer cells from primary tumour and metastatic lymph node.

Introduction: Investigation of the role of vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C) and VEGF receptor-3 (VEGFR-3) in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has mainly focused on lymph node (LN) metastasis related to lymphangiogenesis. However, the coexpression of VEGF-C/VEGFR-3 by tumour cells can independently play an important role. The present study was therefore designed to evaluate VEGF-C/VEGFR-3 coexpression in tumour cells from the primary tumour and corresponding LN metastases.

Upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage in Emergency Departments in France: causes and management.

Objectives: Little is known about the epidemiology of acute upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage hospitalized in Emergency Departments. Most of the studies concerning digestive bleeding have been carried out by Gastroenterology Departments. This multicentre study included consecutive patients with acute upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage hospitalized after an initial management at Emergency Departments in France, to describe the initial medical management and to determine the causes of acute upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage.
