Background: To facilitate the maintenance or resumption of participation in work for patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD), there is a need for high-quality work-focused healthcare. According to the concept of value-based healthcare, quality of care can be enhanced by understanding the outcomes that matter most to patients. However, a major challenge in assessing quality of work-focused healthcare in practice is the lack of consensus on which work-related outcomes should be measured.

Evaluation of occupational therapy in persons with COVID-19: a pre-post observational cohort study.

Background: Persons with COVID-19 may experience limitations in daily functioning and can be referred to occupational therapy.

Objectives: To evaluate changes in daily functioning, cognitive complaints, fatigue and self-management of persons with COVID-19 who received occupational therapy in primary care.To get insights in the volume and duration of occupational therapy.

Several obstacles exist on different levels-patient, healthcare professional, organizational, societal-that impede integration of SDM.

The regional development and implementation of home-based stroke rehabilitation using participatory action research.

Purpose: This study aims to overcome the challenges experienced in the regional development and implementation of home-based stroke rehabilitation (HBSR) and to understand the change process needed.

Materials And Methods: Using participatory action research (PAR), participants and researchers collaboratively produced knowledge and took action to improve the offered HBSR. Different methods for data generation and analysis were used, depending on the aim of the PAR phase and the participants' stages of change.

Gaining consensus on a protocol for general surgery physician assistants in the management of non-compressible abdominal haemorrhage in military austere environments: a Delphi study.

Background: Non-compressible abdominal haemorrhage (NCAH) is a potentially preventable cause of death due to injury. Limited exploratory laparotomy by a non-surgeon is a temporary intervention to sustain life until definitive surgical intervention by trauma surgeons can be obtained. This study aims to establish consensus on a protocol for general surgery physician assistants performing limited exploratory laparotomy to manage NCAH in an austere environment.

Explaining needs for rehabilitation in patients with bone sarcoma and a megaprosthesis: a qualitative, grounded theory study.

Purpose: To explain the needs for rehabilitation of patients with bone sarcoma before and after surgical resection and reconstruction with megaprosthesis.

Materials And Methods: We performed a qualitative study following constructivist grounded theory principles. We purposefully recruited rich cases.

One-year evaluation of people recovering from COVID-19 receiving allied primary healthcare: A nationwide prospective cohort study.

Background: A Dutch nationwide prospective cohort study was initiated to investigate recovery trajectories of people recovering from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and costs of treatment by primary care allied health professionals.

Objectives: The study described recovery trajectories over a period of 12 months and associated baseline characteristics of participants recovering from COVID-19 who visited a primary care allied health professional. It also aimed to provide insight into the associated healthcare and societal costs.

A New Process Model for Relationship-Centred Shared Decision-Making in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Settings.

Introduction: We present a relationship-centred shared-decision-making (RCSDM) process model to explicate factors that shape decision-making processes during physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR) encounters among patients, their care partners and practitioners. Existing shared decision-making (SDM) models fall short in addressing the everyday decisions routinely made regarding persons with chronic disabilities who require high levels of support, their care partners and rehabilitation practitioners. In PMR, these everyday decisions are small scale, immediate and in service to a larger therapeutic goal.

Evaluating patient participation in value-based healthcare: Current state and lessons learned.

Introduction: Value-based healthcare (VBHC) focusses on increasing value for patients. Hospitals aim to implement VBHC via value improvement (VI) teams for medical conditions. To determine the patient's perspective on value, collective patient participation is important in these teams.

Patients' Needs Regarding Work-Focused Healthcare: A Qualitative Evidence Synthesis.

Purpose: To identify, appraise, and synthesize qualitative research evidence exploring patients' needs regarding work-focused healthcare.

Methods: A systematic review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA statement guidelines to identify studies reporting patients' needs regarding work-focused healthcare. Four databases (MEDLINE, Embase, PsychInfo and Web of Science) were systematically searched from January 2000 until May 2023 and screened in duplicate by pairs of two reviewers.

Implementing the Effective Coach2Move Approach for Community-Dwelling Older Adults With Mobility Limitations in Physical Therapist Practice: A Multi-Methods Process Evaluation.

Objective: The aims of this study were to evaluate the adoption of and fidelity to the Coach2Move approach; identify differences between physical therapists with a specialization in geriatrics and physical therapists without a specialization; explore if level of adoption and specialization explain variances in effectiveness; and explore group differences in attitudes and experiences with implementation.

Methods: A multi-methods process evaluation of Coach2Move implementation through 2 education days, 3 peer-assessment meetings, and an adapted electronic health record was performed alongside a cluster randomized stepped-wedge trial comparing regular care physical therapy with Coach2Move. Participants were 36 physical therapists with a specialization (n = 17) and without a specialization (n = 19) who treated 292 community-dwelling older adults.

This paper reports on a patient-led research project aiming to develop a musical hearing training programme for patients with a cochlear implant (CI): the Musi-CI programme. Purpose: To gain a comprehensive understanding of experiences related to being physically active in participants with an uncomplicated type B aortic dissection.

Materials And Methods: We performed a qualitative, phenomenological study. First-person accounts of adults, who at least one year ago had an uncomplicated type B aortic dissection, were collected using semi-structured interviews.

The effectiveness of a protocol without routine radiographs for follow-up of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients (CURVE): a study protocol.

Background And Purpose: Current follow-up protocols for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) are based on consensus and consist of regular full-spine radiographs to monitor curve progression and surgical complications. Consensus exists to avoid inappropriate use of radiographs in children. It is unknown whether a standard radiologic follow-up (S-FU) approach is necessary or if a patient-empowered follow-up (PE-FU) approach can reduce the number of radiographs without treatment consequences.

The association of physical activity and sedentary behaviour with low back pain disability trajectories: A prospective cohort study.

Background: Multiple factors influence the recovery process of low back pain (LBP). The identification and increased knowledge of risk factors might contribute to a better understanding of the course of LBP.

Objectives: To investigate the association of habitual physical activity (PA) and sedentary behaviour (SB), measured at baseline, with disability trajectories in adults with LBP.

Towards person-centred work-focused healthcare for people with cardiovascular disease: a qualitative exploration of patients' experiences and needs.

Purpose: To explore the experiences and needs concerning work-focused healthcare of patients experiencing problems with work participation due to cardiovascular disease based on all facets of person-centred care.

Methods: Nineteen patients who experienced or continue to experience problems with work participation due to cardiovascular disease participated in semi-structured interviews preceded by preparatory written assignments. The transcripts were analysed by means of directed qualitative content analysis.

Using feedback on patient health outcomes to improve orthopaedic physical therapist practice: a quality improvement study.

Objective: Measuring health outcomes plays an important role in patient-centred healthcare. When aggregated across patients, outcomes can provide data for quality improvement (QI). However, most physical therapists are not familiar with QI methods based on patient outcomes.

Evaluating the implementation of personalised outcomes forecasts to optimise supervised exercise therapy in patients with intermittent claudication in the Netherlands: a multimethods study.

Background: To support the optimisation of supervised exercise therapy (SET) in patients with intermittent claudication, we developed personalised outcomes forecasts (POFs), which visualise estimated walking distance and quality of life for individual patients. The POFs may enable healthcare professionals, such as physical and exercise therapists, to improve shared decision-making and patient outcomes.

Objectives: To assess differences in patient outcomes (functional walking distance, maximal walking distance and health-related quality of life) and the level of shared decision-making before and after the implementation of POFs in the conservative treatment of patients with intermittent claudication.

Management of non-compressible torso hemorrhage of the abdomen in civilian and military austere environments: a scoping review.

Background: Non-compressible abdominal hemorrhage (NCAH) is the leading cause of potentially preventable deaths in both civilian and military austere environments, and an improvement in mortality due to this problem has not been demonstrated during the past quarter century. Several innovations have been developed to control hemorrhage closer to the point of injury.

Objective: This review assessed NCAH interventions in civilian and military settings, focusing on austere environments.

Nurturing the Seeds of Participation: Unveiling the Foundational Path for Understanding Aging in Place Barriers and Facilitators From the Perspective of Older Adults Using Mixed Methods and Translational Science.

While the majority of older adults prefer aging in place, health and financial challenges can hinder this vision.
