Introduction: Diabetic retinopathy screening (DRS) attendance in young adults (YAs) is consistently below recommended levels. The aim of this study was to identify barriers and enablers of DRS attendance among YAs in the UK living with type 1 (T1D) and type 2 diabetes (T2D).

Research Design And Methods: YAs (18-34 years) were invited to complete an anonymous online survey in June 2021 assessing agreement with 30 belief statements informed by the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF) of behavior change describing potential barriers/enablers to DRS.

Aim: The aim of this study was to identify barriers and enablers of diabetic eye screening (DES) attendance amongst young adults with diabetes living in the United Kingdom.

Methods: Semistructured qualitative interviews with adults aged 18-34 years with diabetes. Participants were purposively sampled to aim for representation across gender, geographical locations, diabetes type, years since diabetes diagnosis and patterns of attendance (i.

Introduction: Diabetic retinopathy screening (DRS) attendance in young adults is consistently below recommended levels. The aim of this study was to conduct a survey of screening providers in the UK Diabetic Eye Screening Programme (DESP) to identify perceived barriers and enablers to DRS attendance in young adults and elicit views on the effectiveness of strategies to improve screening uptake in this population.

Research Design And Methods: Members of the British Association of Retinal Screening (n=580) were invited to complete an anonymous online survey in July 2020 assessing agreement with 37 belief statements, informed by the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF) of behavior change, describing potential barrier/enablers to delivering DRS for young adults and further survey items exploring effectiveness of strategies to improve uptake of DRS.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the frequency of abnormal findings in fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) among patients with progressive neurological disorders and to identify common dysphagia management strategies used.* -
  • It involved a retrospective review of 209 assessments conducted between 2008 and 2019, revealing that many patients exhibited issues like penetration (72.5%) and aspiration (14.6%), with related Eating Assessment Tool-10 (EAT-10) scores indicating severity.* -
  • The majority (88%) of patients required a functional change in management, mostly involving self-directed dietary modifications, while some (19%) were recommended to use a PEG tube for nutrition, highlighting the need for early evaluation of swallowing

Quantitative evaluation of groundwater/surface water exchange dynamics is universally challenging in large river systems, because existing methodology often does not yield spatially-distributed data and is difficult to apply in deeper water. Here we apply a combined near-surface geophysical and direct groundwater chemical toolkit to refine fresh groundwater discharge estimates to the Colorado River through a 4-km wetland that borders the town of Moab, Utah, USA. Preliminary characterization of raw electromagnetic imaging (EMI) data, collected by kayak and by walking, was used to guide additional direct-contact electrical measurements and installation of new monitoring wells.

Introduction: In a discussion of the risks and benefits of pediatric cochlear implantation, device failure and the need for revision surgery is often overlooked. The failure rate has not been investigated extensively for this population of patients. Hearing results are under-reported following revision surgery as well.

Groundwater availability studies in the arid southwestern United States traditionally have assumed that groundwater discharge by evapotranspiration (ET ) from desert playas is a significant component of the groundwater budget. However, desert playa ET rates are poorly constrained by Bowen ratio energy budget (BREB) and eddy-covariance (EC) micrometeorological measurement approaches. Best attempts by previous studies to constrain ET from desert playas have resulted in ET rates that are within the measurement error of micrometeorological approaches.

Objective: The aim of this study is to assess the rates of thyroidectomy complications performed by two attending surgeons operating together.

Study Design: This is a retrospective chart review.

Methods: This is a retrospective chart review from September 2008 through October 2013 of thyroidectomy cases performed by the head and neck team at Sanford Health.

Gaining streams can provide an integrated signal of relatively large groundwater capture areas. In contrast to the point-specific nature of monitoring wells, gaining streams coalesce multiple flow paths. Impacts on groundwater quality from unconventional gas development may be evaluated at the watershed scale by the sampling of dissolved methane (CH4 ) along such streams.

The infusion of a source of endothelial progenitors (EPCs) to limb ischemia (LB) patients has been used to increase angiogenesis. Because the formation of new blood vessels involves, in addition to EPCs, other cells and angiogenic regulators, we postulate that a combination cell therapy including EPCs and mesenchymal stem cells (a source of pericytes progenitors and angiogenic regulators) may represent a preferential stimuli for the development of blood vessels. In this phase I clinical trial, patients with LI were infused with a cell product consisting of autologous bone marrow-derived mononuclear and mesenchymal stem cells.

The Notch proteins play a vital role in cell fate decisions in both invertebrate and vertebrate development. Careful analysis of this role has led to a model of signalling downstream of these receptors, via the CSL (CBF1, Suppressor of Hairless, Lag-1) family of transcription factors. There have been suggestions, however, that Notch can signal through other pathways.
