Metaphors to describe and understand dementia have been used in Western culture for many years. However, the ways in which people living with dementia and care partners use metaphors and symbols to illustrate and give meaning to their own experiences has been less understood. In this paper we explore the use of metaphor as methodology-- a way to support people living with dementia and their care partners in reflecting on and sharing their experiences of dementia.

We compared the experience of those who received venous thromboembolism prophylaxis following a robot-assisted radical cystectomy with either a direct oral anticoagulant or enoxaparin.
Methods: Medical records of 66 patients who underwent robot-assisted radical cystectomy between July 2017 and May 2020 at a single academic institution were reviewed retrospectively.
We report here the construction of a novel knock-in mouse expressing chimeric alpha3 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) subunits with pharmacological sensitivity to alpha-bungarotoxin (alphaBTX). Sensitivity was generated by substituting five amino acids in the loop C (beta9-beta10) region of the mouse alpha3 subunit with the corresponding residues from the alpha1 subunit of the muscle type receptor from Torpedo californica. To demonstrate the utility of the underlying concept, expressed alpha3[5] subunits were characterized in the superior cervical ganglia (SCG) of homozygous knock-in mice, where the synaptic architecture of postsynaptic alpha3-containing nAChR clusters could now, for the first time, be directly visualized and interrogated by live-staining with rhodamine-conjugated alphaBTX.
