Radiation dose management in thoracic CT: an international survey.

Purpose: We aimed to examine current practice patterns of international thoracic radiologists regarding radiation dose management in adult thoracic computed tomography (CT) examinations.

Materials And Methods: An electronic questionnaire was sent to 800 members of five thoracic radiology societies in North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America addressing radiation dose training and education, standard kVp and mAs settings for thoracic CT, dose reduction practices, clinical scenarios, and demographics.

Results: Of the 800 radiologists, 146 responded to our survey.

Examination of computer task exposures in radiologists: a work systems approach.

Radiologists are intensive computer users as they review and interpret radiological examinations using the Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS). Since their computer tasks require the prolonged use of pointing devices, a high prevalence of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) is reported. The first phase of this study involved conducting a Cognitive Work Analysis in conjunction with a Participatory Ergonomics approach to perform a total work system analysis.

Honorary authorship in radiologic research articles: assessment of frequency and associated factors.

Purpose: To quantify the frequency of perceived honorary authorship in radiologic journals and to identify specific factors that increase its prevalence.

Materials And Methods: This study qualified for exempt status by the institutional review board. An electronic survey was sent to first authors of all original research articles published in Radiology and European Radiology over 3 years.

Compliance with Fleischner Society guidelines for management of small lung nodules: a survey of 834 radiologists.

Purpose: To determine the familiarity of radiologists with the Fleischner Society guidelines for management of small lung nodules and to assess whether their decisions for nodule management are consistent with these recommendations.

Materials And Methods: Institutional review board exemption was granted for this electronic survey, which was sent to a sample of 7000 radiologists randomly selected from the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) directory. Three clinical scenarios for nodule management were presented.

Tracheomalacia and tracheobronchomalacia in children and adults: an in-depth review.

Tracheomalacia and tracheobronchomalacia are disorders that are encountered in both pediatric and adult medicine. Despite increasing recognition of these disease processes, there remains some uncertainty regarding their identification, causes, and treatment. This article is intended to be a comprehensive review of both the adult and pediatric forms of the diseases, and includes sections on the historical aspects of the disorders, and their classification, associated conditions, histopathology, and natural history.

Thymic hyperplasia in thyroid cancer patients.

Objective: Although there is a well-recognized association between thymic hyperplasia and benign thyroid disorders, the prevalence of thymic hyperplasia in patients with malignant thyroid diseases has not been previously reported. We performed this study to determine the prevalence and morphologic features of thymic hyperplasia on CT scans of thyroid cancer patients.

Conclusions: Thymic hyperplasia is commonly observed on CT scans of thyroid cancer patients and almost always demonstrates a characteristic pyramidal configuration.
