The taxonomy of the genus Brachytrupes Serville, 1838, known as Giant Burrowing Crickets is revised. Brachytrupes includes thirteen species, with B. megacephalus Lefebvre, 1827 designated as type species to promote nomenclature stability.

This finding extends the number of species known of this genus in Cameroon at two and proposes a key for African species.

These new species are: Cryncus camerounensis Um Nyobe, Kekeunou Bilong Bilong sp. nov.
