UOTe: Kondo-Interacting Topological Antiferromagnet in a Van der Waals Lattice.

Since the initial discovery of 2D van der Waals (vdW) materials, significant effort has been made to incorporate the three properties of magnetism, band structure topology, and strong electron correlations-to leverage emergent quantum phenomena and expand their potential applications. However, the discovery of a single vdW material that intrinsically hosts all three ingredients has remained an outstanding challenge. Here, the discovery of a Kondo-interacting topological antiferromagnet is reported in the vdW 5f electron system UOTe.

MLA Research Training Institute (RTI) 2018 and 2019: participant research confidence and program effectiveness.

Objective: The article reports on an assessment of the effectiveness of the MLA Research Training Institute (RTI) for the years 2018 and 2019. The RTI is a year-long continuing education research methods training and support program for health sciences librarians. The study focuses on assessing RTI participants' research confidence after program completion and compares these results with their perceptions of workshop/program performance and learning outcomes.

Twenty-five years of Medical Library Association competencies and communities.

Professional associations provide resources to support members' career development and facilitate ways for members to engage with and learn from one another. This article describes Medical Library Association (MLA) activities related to the revision of professional competencies and the restructuring of the organization's communities during the past twenty-five years. Grounded in MLA's Platform for Change, the MLA competency statement underwent two revisions with core themes remaining consistent.

Analyzing COVID-19 Resources on Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries' (AAHSL) Research Guides.

In this study, the authors analyzed 147 AAHSL member libraries' COVID-19 research guides to determine the volume and origin of links included. Through stratified sampling based on total enrollment of health sciences academic institutions, 51 eligible AASHL library websites were selected for inclusion in the study. Content from COVID-19 research guides was analyzed, and the origin of each link was categorized.

Temporal Variations and Spatial Disparities in Public Sentiment Toward COVID-19 and Preventive Practices in the United States: Infodemiology Study of Tweets.

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, US public health authorities and county, state, and federal governments recommended or ordered certain preventative practices, such as wearing masks, to reduce the spread of the disease. However, individuals had divergent reactions to these preventive practices.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to understand the variations in public sentiment toward COVID-19 and the recommended or ordered preventive practices from the temporal and spatial perspectives, as well as how the variations in public sentiment are related to geographical and socioeconomic factors.

Delirium, a Symptom of UTI in the Elderly: Fact or Fable? A Systematic Review.

Background: In geriatrics, delirium is widely viewed as a consequence of and, therefore, a reason to initiate workup for urinary tract infection (UTI). There is a possibility that this association is overestimated. To determine the evidence behind this clinical practice, we undertook a systematic review of the literature linking delirium with UTI.

Fine-scale genetic structure and cryptic associations reveal evidence of kin-based sociality in the African forest elephant.

Spatial patterns of relatedness within animal populations are important in the evolution of mating and social systems, and have the potential to reveal information on species that are difficult to observe in the wild. This study examines the fine-scale genetic structure and connectivity of groups within African forest elephants, Loxodonta cyclotis, which are often difficult to observe due to forest habitat. We tested the hypothesis that genetic similarity will decline with increasing geographic distance, as we expect kin to be in closer proximity, using spatial autocorrelation analyses and Tau K(r) tests.

Quality Health Information on the Internet: Developing a Diabetes Pathfinder for the Chinese Population.

A Web-based bilingual diabetes information pathfinder was created to help the Chinese population access quality health information on the Internet as part of a collaborative outreach project in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. A survey was conducted to identify the demographics, Internet usage, health information needs, and preferences for training sessions of the Chinese population. Breast cancer, diabetes, and breast cancer were the top three diseases of interest.

Patient decisions about breast cancer chemoprevention: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Purpose: Women at high risk of breast cancer face the complex decision of whether to take tamoxifen or raloxifene for breast cancer chemoprevention. We investigated what is known about decisions of women regarding chemoprevention.

Methods: Using MEDLINE, CINAHL, and PSYCINFO, plus reviewing reference lists of relevant articles, in December 2009 we identified 13 studies that addressed patient decisions about breast cancer chemoprevention, were published in 1995 or later, were peer-reviewed primary clinical studies, and reported rates at which participants showed interest in (hypothetical uptake) or accepted (real uptake) chemoprevention medications.

Air travel and venous thromboembolism: a systematic review.

Context: Despite multiple attempts to document and quantify the danger of venous thromboembolism (VTE) following prolonged travel, there is still uncertainty about the magnitude of risk and what can be done to lower it.

Objectives: To review the methodologic strength of the literature, estimate the risk of travel-related VTE, evaluate the efficacy of preventive treatments, and develop evidence-based recommendations for practice.

Data Sources: Studies identified from MEDLINE from 1966 through December 2005, supplemented by a review of the Cochrane Central Registry of Controlled Trials, the Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, and relevant bibliographies.

An innovative partnership to recruit and educate biomedical information professionals.

There is a growing need for biomedical sciences information professionals who have strong backgrounds in the biomedical sciences. This project pilots an innovative model for recruiting and educating students with these backgrounds. The project includes recruiting students from undergraduate biomedical programs, creating and teaching a basic course in biomedical information management, and awarding ten fellowships for advanced study.

Uptake rates for breast cancer genetic testing: a systematic review.

Purpose: Individuals and families dealing with the possibility of hereditary cancer risk face numerous decisions, including whether to obtain genetic testing. The purpose of this article is to determine what is known about the rate at which people obtain cancer genetic testing.

Methods: Using MEDLINE, CINAHL, and PSYCHINFO plus reviewing reference lists of relevant articles, we identified 40 studies in May 2002 that addressed breast cancer-related decisions, enrolled adult participants, were published in 1990 or more recently, were peer-reviewed primary clinical studies, addressed genetic testing either alone or in combination with genetic counseling, and reported rates at which participants showed interest in and/or underwent cancer genetic testing.

Ureteral endometriosis in patients after total abdominal hysterectomy: presentation and diagnosis: a case series.

Although ureteral endometriosis is uncommon, it is a significant disease process that can cause irreversible renal damage because of delays in diagnosis. It is even more uncommon and therefore more likely to be left out of the differential diagnosis in postmenopausal women. This case series reviewed the clinical presentation and treatment of ureteral endometriosis, as well as the history and treatment of 3 postmenopausal women who presented with ureteral obstruction secondary to ureteral endometriomas.

Free clinics: a national survey.

Objectives: To describe the scope and value of services provided by free clinics across the United States.

Methods: Mail survey of directors of free clinics registered in the Free Clinic Directory of the Free Clinic Foundation of America, November 2001, concerning the calendar year 2001.

Results: Eighty two percent (281/355) of clinics responded.

Repeated-measures modeling improved comparison of diagnostic tests in meta-analysis of dependent studies.

Objective: Current methods for meta-analysis of diagnostic tests do not allow utilizing all the information from papers in which several tests have been studied on the same patient sample. We demonstrate how to combine several studies of diagnostic tests, where each study reports on more than one test and some tests (but not necessarily all of them) are shared with other papers selected for the meta-analysis. We adopt statistical methodology for repeated measurements for the purpose of meta-analysis of diagnostic tests.

D-dimer testing for deep venous thrombosis: a metaanalysis.

Background: The use of D-dimer assays as a rule-out test for deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is controversial. To clarify this issue we performed a systematic review of the relevant literature.

Methods: We identified eligible studies, using MEDLINE entries from February 1995 through October 2003, supplemented by a review of bibliographies of relevant articles.
