Study Objectives: To clarify whether sleep disturbance would alter the patterns of structural and functional networks underlying cognitive dysfunction in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD).
Methods: Among the 180 patients with nondemented PD in our cohort, 45 patients were classified as the group with sleep disturbance according to the 5-item scales for outcomes in Parkinson's disease nighttime scale. Based on propensity scores, another 45 PD patients without sleep disturbance were matched to this group.
Ample evidence has suggested that extracellular α-synuclein aggregates would play key roles in the pathogenesis and progression of Parkinsonian disorders (PDs). In the present study, we investigated whether mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their derived soluble factors could exert neuroprotective effects via proteolysis of extracellular α-synuclein. When preformed α-synuclein aggregates were incubated with MSC-conditioned medium, α-synuclein aggregates were disassembled, and insoluble and oligomeric forms of α-synuclein were markedly decreased, thus leading to a significant increase in neuronal viability.

The Scale for Outcomes in Parkinson's disease-Autonomic (SCOPA-AUT) was developed to evaluate and quantify autonomic symptoms in PD. The goal of this study was to translate the original SCOPA-AUT, which was written in English, into Korean and to evaluate its reliability and validity for Korean PD patients.

It can be associated with serious injury from frequent falls, apnea spells, and aspiration pneumonia. Familial hyperekplexia has a heterogeneous genetic background with several identified causative genes; it demonstrates both dominant and recessive inheritance in the α1 subunit of the glycine receptor (), the β subunit of the glycine receptor and the presynaptic sodium and chloride-dependent glycine transporter 2 genes.

Due to their roles in a variety of biological processes, the aberrant expression profiles of miRNAs have been identified as biomarkers for many diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and neurodegenerative diseases. In order to precisely, rapidly and economically monitor the expression of miRNAs, many cutting-edge nanotechnologies have been developed.

Background: Life-long experiences of cognitive activity could enhance cognitive reserve, which may lead individuals to show less cognitive deficits in Alzheimer's disease, despite similar pathological changes. We performed this study to test whether premorbid physical activity may enhance motor reserve in Parkinson's disease (PD) (i.e.

For example, shape measurements derived from brain MRI scans are multidimensional geometric descriptions of brain structure and provide an alternate class of phenotypes that remains largely unexplored in genetic studies. Here we extend the concept of heritability to multidimensional traits, and present the first comprehensive analysis of the heritability of neuroanatomical shape measurements across an ensemble of brain structures based on genome-wide SNP and MRI data from 1,320 unrelated, young and healthy individuals.

We investigated whether the G2385R polymorphism in leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 gene (LRRK2), a risk variant for the development of PD in East Asians, is associated with cognitive dysfunction in PD. We recruited 299 PD patients, consisting of 23 carriers and 276 non-carriers of LRRK2 G2385R, from 14 centers.

Background And Purpose: Nonmotor symptoms (NMS) in Parkinson's disease (PD) have multisystem origins with heterogeneous manifestations that develop throughout the course of PD. NMS are increasingly recognized as having a significant impact on the health-related quality of life (HrQoL). We aimed to determine the NMS presentation according to PD status, and the associations of NMS with other clinical variables and the HrQoL of Korean PD patients.

Moreover, the synthesis of benzofulvenes was demonstrated as a one-pot method through tandem copper-catalyzed [3 + 2] cycloaddition and rhodium-catalyzed denitrogenative cyclization from (E)-ethyl 2-benzylidenebut-3-ynoates and N-sulfonyl azides.

It is highly heritable, but the underlying genes remain largely undetermined. In a genome-wide association study of 32,438 adults, we discovered five previously unknown loci for intracranial volume and confirmed two known signals.

In particular, M2-polarized microglia are anti-inflammatory and phagocytic cells that serve a restorative function. In this study, we investigated whether mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) enhance the phagocytic clearance of α-synuclein via M2 microglia polarization, and thereby exert neuroprotective effects in α-synuclein-enriched experimental models and patients with multiple system atrophy (MSA).

Objective: The purpose of this study is to evaluate direct in vivo visualization of nigrosome-1 in substantia nigra (SN) with 3D FLAIR imaging and its diagnostic value in predicting the intactness of presynaptic dopaminergic function of the nigrostriatal pathway.
Materials And Methods: Forty-five patients showing parkinsonism who underwent both 3D FLAIR and dopamine transporter (DAT) imaging were recruited. In total, 90 SNs were reviewed on axial 3D FLAIR images.
A method for the regioselective synthesis of a wide range of dihydrothiophenes was developed from the rhodium-catalyzed transannulation of 1,2,3-thiadiazoles with aliphatic, aromatic, and heteroaromatic alkenes. Tandem rhodium-catalyzed transannulation of 1,2,3-thiadiazoles with alkenes followed by 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ) oxidation was also demonstrated for the one-pot regioselective synthesis of various thiophenes. Advantages of the present method include a broad substrate scope, wide functional group compatibility, and high regioselectivity.
