This commentary considers the similarities which exist between pressure ulcers (PUs) and diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). It aims to describe what is known to be shared-both in theory and practice-by these wound types. It goes on to detail the literature surrounding the role of inflammation in both wound types.

Background: The optimal treatment strategy for radioiodine (RAI) treatment protocols for benign hyperthyroidism remains elusive. Although individualised activities are recommended in European Law, many centres continue to provide fixed activities. Our institution implemented a dosimetry protocol in 2016 following years of fixed dosing which facilitates the calculation of individualised activities based on thyroid volume and radioiodine uptake.

10-year update to the combined 16-month nuclear medicine and diagnostic radiology residency: The NuRad pathway.

Background: The decline in nuclear medicine (NM) residencies in the United States has led to a shortage of NM physicians. To help address this, a 16-month NM pathway for diagnostic radiology (DR) residents was developed in 2010. At the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, we matched our first resident into the NuRad (NM + DR) pathway in 2013.

Isotopic anomalies could have also been affected by delivery of exogenous clasts and aqueous mobilization of soluble elements. Here, we show that isotopic anomalies for mildly soluble Cr are highly variable in Ryugu and CI chondrites, whereas those of Ti are relatively uniform.

Introduction: High mammographic breast density (MBD) is an independent breast cancer risk factor. In organised breast screening settings, discussions are ongoing regarding the optimal clinical role of MBD to help guide screening decisions. The aim of this scoping review was to provide an overview of current practices incorporating MBD within population-based breast screening programmes and from professional organisations internationally.

A pre-clinical animal study of a novel mechanical-only ablation device treatment for superficial venous disease.

Methods: A retrospective review of microcalcifications from 46 patients was undertaken. A Hologic 3-Dimensions mammography system and a HD Combo protocol was used for simultaneous acquisition of the digital and synthetic images.

Investigation of detector uniformity issues for Siemens Inspiration systems.

Purpose: Detector uniformity is an important parameter in digital mammography to guarantee a level of image quality adequate for early detection of breast cancer. Many problems with digital systems have been determined through the uniformity measurement, primarily as a result of incorrect flat-field calibration and artifacts caused by image receptor defects. The European guidelines suggest a method for the image uniformity assessment based on measurement of Signal-to-Noise ratio (SNR) and Pixel Value (PV) across a uniform image.

Summary: Measurement of glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) has been utilised in assessing long-term control of blood glucose in patients with diabetes, as well as diagnosing diabetes and identifying patients at increased risk of developing diabetes in the future. HbA1c reflects the level of blood glucose to which the erythrocyte has been exposed during its lifespan, and there are a number of clinical situations affecting the erythrocyte life span in which HbA1c values may be spuriously high or low and therefore not reflective of the true level of glucose control. In the present case series, we describe the particulars of three patients with diabetes who had spuriously low HbA1c levels as a result of dapsone usage.

Microplate-based surface area assay for rapid phenotypic antibiotic susceptibility testing.

Rapid delivery of proper antibiotic therapies to infectious disease patients is essential for improving patient outcomes, decreasing hospital lengths-of-stay, and combating the antibiotic resistance epidemic. Antibiotic stewardship programs are designed to address these issues by coordinating hospital efforts to rapidly deliver the most effective antibiotics for each patient, which requires bacterial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST). Despite the clinical need for fast susceptibility testing over a wide range of antibiotics, conventional phenotypic AST requires overnight incubations, and new rapid phenotypic AST platforms restrict the number of antibiotics tested for each patient.

Despite the medico-legal importance of clinical records, there have been few published studies describing the quality of medical records in orthopaedic surgery. What Is Known Already: The prevalence of HA and PCOS are increased in women with T1D. These observations are based on measurement of serum androgens using immunoassays, to-date no studies using LC-MS/MS have been reported in reproductive-age women with T1D.

Overexpression of HER3 following targeted therapy can occur rapidly and heterogeneously both within a single lesion and across sites of metastasis, making protein quantification by biopsy highly challenging.
