Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how family members support the transition of older relatives into long-term care, focusing on their personal narratives and experiences throughout the process.
  • - Four key phases were identified: before transition, crisis event, transition, and after transition, with the 'before transition' phase being the longest due to gradual deterioration of the older relative's health.
  • - Understanding these phases and the influence of family dynamics and knowledge can help healthcare providers offer better support and information to families, ultimately easing their emotional burden during this challenging time.

Article Synopsis
  • This text discusses the importance of intersectional approaches in climate policy to address the unique health impacts of climate change on women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals, who often face compounded vulnerabilities due to systemic oppression.
  • It highlights the lack of meaningful gender and health representation in international climate governance, emphasizing that despite some progress, men still dominate decision-making roles in climate policy.
  • The text advocates for promoting gender-responsiveness in climate strategies to enhance inclusivity and effectiveness, leading to more resilient and equitable societies.

Background: EZH2, well-known for its canonical methyltransferase activity in transcriptional repression in many cancers including glioblastoma (GBM), has an understudied non-canonical function critical for sustained tumor growth. Recent GBM consortial efforts reveal complex molecular heterogeneity for which therapeutic vulnerabilities correlated with subtype stratification remain relatively unexplored. Current enzymatic EZH2 inhibitors (EZH2inh) targeting its canonical SET domain show limited efficacy and lack durable response, suggesting that underlying differences in the non-canonical pathway may yield new knowledge.

Background: The examination of psychometric properties in instruments measuring abuse of older people (AOP) is a crucial area of study that has, unfortunately, received relatively little attention. Poor psychometric properties in AOP measurement instruments can significantly contribute to inconsistencies in prevalence estimates, casting a shadow of uncertainty over the magnitude of the problem at national, regional, and global levels.

Objectives: This review rigorously employed the Consensus-based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN) guideline on the quality of outcome measures.

Background: Decision-making during health crises differs from routine decision-making and is constrained by ambiguity about evolving epidemiological situations, urgency of response, lack of evidence, and fear. Recent analyses of governance and decision-making during COVID-19, focusing on leadership qualities, involvement of specific stakeholders, and effective resource management, do not adequately address a persisting gap in understanding the determinants of decision-making during health crises at the national level.

Methods: We undertook a study to understand the processes and characteristics of decision-making during the COVID-19 pandemic in Singapore.

Background And Importance: Trephination is a procedure in which a small hole is made in the skull. Rare cases of self-trephination by individuals seeking medical benefit have been reported. Excoriation disorder is a compulsive skin-picking condition in which an individual self-inflicts cutaneous lesions.

At the end of May, 194 member states of the World Health Organization (WHO) will meet for the World Health Assembly. Negotiations underway now will determine whether they vote then to adopt a pandemic agreement. For the past 2 years, discussions have focused on articulating essential components of a robust and equitable architecture for pandemic preparedness and response.

In many animals, ultraviolet (UV) vision guides navigation, foraging, and communication, but few studies have addressed the contribution of UV signals to colour vision, or measured UV discrimination thresholds using behavioural experiments. Here, we tested UV colour vision in an anemonefish (Amphiprion ocellaris) using a five-channel (RGB-V-UV) LED display. We first determined that the maximal sensitivity of the A.

We provide an in-depth understanding of how governance and decision-making during the COVID-19 pandemic has been empirically characterized in the literature to identify gaps in research and highlight areas that require further inquiry. We searched peer-reviewed publications using empirical data published between Jan 1, 2020 and Jan 31, 2022 in three electronic databases to examine the process of governance and decision-making during the COVID-19 pandemic. Two authors independently screened the records and 24 publications were extracted for the review.

Background: Burns traditionally require frequent, painful dressing changes to minimize infection risk and promote wound healing. To improve care for our pediatric population, our institution adapted a skin graft donor site dressing into a "stick-down" burn dressing consisting of a one-time application of bacitracin and 3% bismuth tribromophenate/vaseline impregnated gauze (Xeroform) that adheres to the burn and peels off as new epithelialized skin forms. The goal of which is to minimize dressing change frequency and patient discomfort in a cost-effective, widely available manner.

Introduction: Rhinoplasty was one of the most frequently performed aesthetic surgeries in the USA in 2022. Traditionally, the open approach has been preferred by the majority of surgeons often due to familiarity and ease of visualization. However, patient interest in closed and preservation rhinoplasty is driving a resurgence in the popularity of endonasal techniques.

Governance of the COVID-19 pandemic required decision-makers to make and implement decisions amidst uncertainty, public pressure and time constraints. However, few studies have attempted to assess these decision-making processes empirically during health emergencies. Thus, we aimed to understand governance, defined as the process of decision-making and implementation of decisions, during the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.

Global health law for pandemics currently lacks legal obligations to ensure distributional and reparative justice. In contrast, international environmental law contains several novel international legal mechanisms aimed at addressing the effects of colonialism and global injustices that arise from the disproportionate contributions to - and impacts of - climate change and biodiversity loss.

As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded in the spring of 2020, governments around the world began to implement policies to mitigate and manage the outbreak. Significant research efforts were deployed to track and analyse these policies in real-time to better inform the response. While much of the policy analysis focused narrowly on social distancing measures designed to slow the spread of disease, here, we present a dataset focused on capturing the breadth of policy types implemented by jurisdictions globally across the whole-of-government.

Background: The prevention of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in vulnerable populations is a global health priority. EVADE was a phase 2/3 multicenter, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial of adintrevimab, an extended-half-life monoclonal antibody, for postexposure (PEP) and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) of symptomatic COVID-19.

Methods: Eligible participants (vaccine-naive, aged ≥12 years) were randomized 1:1 to receive a single 300-mg intramuscular injection of adintrevimab or placebo.

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted significant gaps in equitable access to essential medical countermeasures such as vaccines. Manufacturing capacity for pandemic vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics is concentrated in too few countries. One of the major hurdles to equitable vaccine distribution was "vaccine nationalism", countries hoarded vaccines to vaccinate their own populations first which significantly reduced global vaccine supply, leaving significant parts of the world vulnerable to the virus.

Background: The psychometric properties of elder abuse measurement instruments have not been well-studied. Poor psychometric properties of elder abuse measurement instruments may contribute to the inconsistency of elder abuse prevalence estimates and uncertainty about the magnitude of the problem at the national, regional, and global levels.

Objectives: The present review will utilise the COSMIN taxonomy on the quality of outcome measures to identify and review the instruments used in measuring elder abuse, assess the instrument's measurement properties, and identify the definitions of elder abuse and abuse subtypes measured by the instrument.
