Progression through the profession of pharmacy is filled with many milestones that can contribute to feelings of stress, rejection, and isolation. For Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual+(LGBTQIA+) students and practitioners, these feelings can be compounded by similar issues experienced by their sexual orientation or gender identity. Historically, LGBTQIA+ students, new practitioners, and seasoned professionals alike have lacked visible role models for how to intersect personal and professional identity in the pharmacy profession.

This paper presents a method for determining the number of lifting techniques used by healthy individuals through the analysis of kinematic data collected from 115 participants utilizing an motion capture system. The technique utilizes a combination of feature extraction and Ward's method to analyse the range of motion in the sagittal plane of the knee, hip, and trunk. The findings identified five unique lifting techniques in people without low back pain.

Paracetamol (acetaminophen, APAP) overdose severely damages mitochondria and triggers several apoptotic processes in hepatocytes, but the final outcome is fulminant necrotic cell death, resulting in acute liver failure and mortality. Here, we studied this switch of cell death modes and demonstrate a non-canonical role of the apoptosis-regulating BCL-2 homolog BIM/Bcl2l11 in promoting necrosis by regulating cellular bioenergetics. BIM deficiency enhanced total ATP production and shifted the bioenergetic profile towards glycolysis, resulting in persistent protection from APAP-induced liver injury.

Slightly different reaction conditions afforded two distinct cavity-shaped cis-chelating diphosphanes from the same starting materials, namely diphenyl(2-phosphanylphenyl)phosphane and an α-cyclodextrin-derived dimesylate. Thanks to their metal-confining properties, the two diphosphanes form only mononuclear [CuX(PP)] complexes (X=Cl, Br, or I) with the tricoordinated metal ion located just above the center of the cavity. The two series of Cu complexes display markedly different luminescence properties that are both influenced by the electronic properties of the ligand and the unique steric environment provided by the cyclodextrin (CD) cavity.

Starting from a deterministic model, we propose and study a stochastic model for human papillomavirus infection and cervical cancer progression. Our analysis shows that the chronic infection state as random variables which have the ergodic invariant probability measure is necessary for progression from infected cell population to cervical cancer cells. It is shown that small progression rate from infected cells to precancerous cells and small microenvironmental noises associated with the progression rate and viral infection help to establish such chronic infection states.

Efflux pumps have been reported as one of the significant mechanisms by which bacteria evade the effects of multiple antibiotics. The tripartite efflux pump MexAB-OprM in Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most significant multidrug efflux systems due to its broad resistance to antibiotics such as chloramphenicol, fluoroquinolones, lipophilic β-lactam antibiotics, nalidixic acid, novobiocin, rifampicin, and tetracycline. A promising strategy to overcome this resistance mechanism is to combine antibiotics with efflux pump inhibitors (EPIs), which can increase their intracellular concentration to enhance their biological activities.

Brain stimulation with ultra-low-intensity ultrasound has rarely been investigated due to the lack of a reliable device to measure small neuronal signal changes made by the ultra-low intensity range. We propose Ultrasonocoverslip, an ultrasound-transducer-integrated-glass-coverslip that determines the minimum intensity for brain cell activation. Brain cells can be cultured directly on Ultrasonocoverslip to simultaneously deliver uniform ultrasonic pressure to hundreds of cells with real-time monitoring of cellular responses using fluorescence microscopy and single-cell electrophysiology.

This study aimed to use oleic acid-based ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) to recover carotenoids from carrot pomace and emulsify the enriched-carotenoid oleic acid using spontaneous and ultrasonic-assisted emulsification. The extraction performance of oleic acid was compared with traditional organic solvents, including hexane, acetone, and ethyl acetate. The one-factor experiments were employed to examine the impact of UAE conditions, including liquid-to-solid ratios, temperature, ultrasonic power, and time, on the extraction yield of carotenoids and to find the conditional ranges for the optimization process.
