Objective: The objective of this article is to assess real-world safety and effectiveness of DAA treatment in a prospective multicenter registry study.
Methods: The German Hepatitis C-Registry includes 6606 patients with genotype 1 from 246 centers, treated between February 2014 and June 2016 at the discretion of the physician.
Background & Aims: There are few large-scale, prospective studies comparing liver-associated events in treated and untreated patients with CHC managed in routine clinical practice.
Methods: Patients with CHC were prospectively enrolled in a non-interventional study. Data from patients with available documentation who had either achieved a sustained virological response, or were non-responders, relapsers, or had virological breakthrough following treatment with peginterferon alfa-2a±ribavirin, or who had been diagnosed but never treated at least 3 years previously, and who remained under medical observation were analyzed.

Methods: Patients characteristics, treatment results and safety profiles of 4859 patients with hepatitis c virus (HCV) infection receiving treatment with pegylated interferon alfa-2a and ribavirin were retrieved from a large ongoing German multicentre non-interventional study. Recommended treatment duration was 24 wk for GT 2 and GT 3 infection and 48 wk for GT 1 and GT 4 infection.
Autoantibodies in hepatitis C virus-infected patients may indicate autoimmune hepatitis or other immune-mediated diseases. This may impact safety and efficacy of interferon-based therapy of chronic hepatitis C. We investigated the association between a positive test result for a variety of autoantibodies and the initiation and efficacy of therapy for chronic hepatitis C.

As boceprevir and telaprevir are not approved for these genotypes, pegylated interferon plus ribavirin will remain the treatment of choice for the coming years. Patients infected with HCV genotype 5 or 6 were identified by data base search from an ongoing observational cohort study in Germany.
