Biofortification was coined as a term to define a plant breeding strategy to increase the micronutrient content of staple food crops to reduce the burden of micronutrient deficiencies in low- and middle-income countries. In 2003, the HarvestPlus program, based in the centers comprising the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research, was initiated to implement the biofortification strategy. This article discusses what has been achieved, what has been learned, and the key challenges to embed biofortification in food systems and to expand its impact.

Simultaneous excitation of even and odd WGM modes, enabled by a small symmetry breaking via non-normal illumination, allows switching the plasmonic near field between opposite sides of the antenna, depending on the excitation wavelength used in a wavelength range of 60 nm centered around 790 nm. The anaerobic digestion of wastewater from the cleaning of tank cars transporting food and fodder was investigated in both bench and pilot scales with a single-stage, mesophilic (39 °C), completely mixed process. The promising results lead to the planning and building of a 1200-m full-scale biogas plant at TS-Clean cleaning station in Fahrbinde, Germany. Methods: The data basis consists of N=998 patients at the psychosomatic department of the Oberharz Rehabilitation Center as well as data from insurance accounts.
