Thiourethane (TU) additives and difunctional, polymerizable crosslinking agents have been demonstrated to increase toughness in methacrylate-based materials. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential reinforcement of acrylic denture bases by combining thiourethane additives and 1,6 hexanediol dimethacrylate (HDDMA) as an additional crosslinking agent. One commercial acrylic resin (Nature-Cryl MC; GC America) was tested by adding 0 (control) or 10 wt% TU, each of them combined with 0 (control), 10, 20 and 30 wt% HDDMA, for a total of 8 experimental groups.

Here, we present results from a pilot study in which we combine behavioral testing in musical improvisation and structural neuroimaging to relate brain structure to performance in a creative musical improvisation task. Tissue regeneration at an injured site depends on proliferation, migration, and differentiation of resident stem or progenitor cells, but solid tissues are often sufficiently dense and constricting that nuclei are highly stressed by migration. In this study, constricted migration of myoblastic cell types and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) increases nuclear rupture, increases DNA damage, and modulates differentiation. Fewer myoblasts fuse into regenerating muscle in vivo after constricted migration in vitro, and myodifferentiation in vitro is likewise suppressed.

The aim of this study was to synthesize three new methacrylate monomers based on the modification of saccharides structures (glucose-Gluc, sucrose-Sucr and chitosan-Chit) with glycidyl methacrylate, and to use them in the composition of dental adhesives. Three methacrylate saccharide monomers were synthesized and characterized by mid-IR, H and C NMR, antioxidant activity and cytotoxic effect. Monomers included: one monosaccharide - Gluc-MA; one disaccharide - Sucr-MA; and one polysaccharide - Chit-MA.

Sepsis is a bi-phasic inflammatory disease that threatens approximately 30 million lives and claims over 14 million annually, yet little is known regarding the molecular switches and pathways that regulate this disease. Here, we have described ABCF1, an ATP-Binding Cassette (ABC) family member protein, which possesses an E2 ubiquitin enzyme activity, through which it controls the Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)- Toll-like Receptor-4 (TLR4) mediated gram-negative insult by targeting key proteins for K63-polyubiquitination. Ubiquitination by ABCF1 shifts the inflammatory profile from an early phase MyD88-dependent to a late phase TRIF-dependent signaling pathway, thereby regulating TLR4 endocytosis and modulating macrophage polarization from M1 to M2 phase.
