Proton beam therapy image-guided radiotherapy training for RTTs - Experience from a single institution.

This study investigates whether an Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) workbook and Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) case studies enhances Radiation Therapists' (RTTs) confidence analysing Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) CBCTs. An 11-participant questionnaire-based study was conducted to assess pre- and post-training confidence. Prior to training, RTTs exhibited higher confidence in photon CBCT decision-making over proton CBCT, highlighting the need for PBT-specific IGRT training, irrespective of prior photon experience.

The effects of acute exercise intensity on memory: Controlling for state-dependence.

The present experiment evaluated the effects of varying intensities of acute exercise on free-recall memory performance while controlling for potential state-dependent effects. Forty-eight young adults completed a within-subject experiment involving seven primary laboratory visits. The encoding and retrieval phases were matched or mismatched by taking place either during rest or during a less than 5-min bout of acute exercise, and at moderate or vigorous intensity.

Left ventricular assist device implantation outcomes in patients with subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillators: A case series.

Background: Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) may induce electromagnetic interference (EMI) affecting implanted cardiac devices, including more novel subcutaneous implantable cardiac defibrillators (S-ICDs).

Methods: In this case series, the authors retrospectively reviewed courses of 6 patients with S-ICDs who underwent LVAD implantation at a single center.

Results: Of the 6 patients reviewed, 4 experienced inappropriate ICD shocks, of which 3 resulted from EMI.

The meaning of autistic movements.

Moving the body in 'stereotyped', 'repetitive', 'ritualised' or 'unusual' ways is part of the criteria for receiving a diagnosis of autism. However, the reasons for these movements and their personal value are not well understood. Certain ways of moving have become part of a disorder, and have received negative judgements, whereas other movements have not.

Patient Access of Their Radiology Reports Before and After Implementation of 21st Century Cures Act Information-Blocking Provisions at a Large Multicampus Health System.

To implement provisions of the 21st Century Cures Act that address information blocking, federal regulations mandated that health systems provide patients with immediate access to elements of their electronic health information, including imaging results. The purpose of this study was to compare patient access of radiology reports before and after implementation of the information-blocking provisions of the 21st Century Cures Act. This retrospective study included patients who underwent outpatient imaging examinations from January 1, 2021, through December 31, 2022, at three campuses within a large health system.

A Blog-Based Study of Autistic Adults' Experiences of Aloneness and Connection and the Interplay with Well-Being: Corpus-Based and Thematic Analyses.

Background: Autistic adults appear to be more vulnerable to mental ill health, with loneliness being a variable associated with multiple outcomes of poorer well-being. However, a description of meaningful social connection that is suitable for autistic adults is missing from this research, along with a missing understanding of the conditions that contribute to well-being.

Methods: In this study, autistic adults' experiences of connectedness and aloneness were systematically searched for within data collected from blogs.

Strains/Sprains and Fractures Are the Most Common Hand and Wrist Injuries in National Basketball Association Athletes Who Return to Preinjury Player Efficiency and Equal or Greater True Shooting Percentage Within Two Years of Injury.

Purpose: To characterize the prevalence and incidence of in-game hand and wrist injuries in the National Basketball Association (NBA), to determine the factors associated with an equal or greater player efficiency rating (PER), and to determine the factors associated with an equal or greater true shooting percentage (TS%) 2 years after a hand and wrist injury using a large-scale national database of NBA players.

Methods: Injury data from seasons 2015-2016 to 2020-2021, with exclusion of the 2019-2020 because of abbreviated play due to the coronavirus disease 2019, were extracted from a public online database, Pro Sports Transactions. Injury characteristics and NBA player demographic information were assessed using descriptive statistics.

"There is always a waitlist": The experiences of perinatal women randomized to a waitlist condition in a trial evaluating a novel online self-directed intervention for perinatal anxiety.

Background: Pregnant and postpartum women are at a heightened risk for the development or worsening of mental health problems, with elevated rates of mood and anxiety disorders noted across studies. Timely access to mental health supports is critical during the perinatal period (spanning pregnancy to 1 year postpartum), to mitigate potential negative impacts on mother and child. In general adult populations, a small body of research has highlighted the association between being waitlisted for mental health services with a deterioration in mental health.

Compassionate pedagogy for neurodiversity in higher education: A conceptual analysis.

The neurodiversity paradigm challenges pathologising accounts of neurodevelopmental differences, including autism, attention deficit disorder (ADHD), dyslexia, developmental language disorder (DLD) and others. From a neurodiversity perspective, these differences in the way people perceive, learn about and interact with the world are conceptualised as naturally occurring cognitive variation, akin to biodiversity in the natural environment, which may bring unique strengths and challenges for individuals. An implication of this approach is that interventions designed to create contexts in which neurodivergent people can thrive are needed, in addition to those that seek to ameliorate individual-level difficulties.

Abdominal Emergency After Subcutaneous ICD Implantation.

We describe a previously unreported and potentially fatal complication of colonic perforation following the implantation of a subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator in a young patient with nonischemic cardiomyopathy. We discuss the importance of technique and postprocedural evaluation for subdiaphragmatic complications. This description emphasizes presenting complaints, early recognition, and management strategies.

An evaluation of the quality of online perinatal depression information.

Background: During the perinatal period (including pregnancy and up to 12 months after childbirth), expectant and new mothers are at an elevated risk of developing depression. Inadequate knowledge about perinatal depression and treatment options may contribute to the low help-seeking rates exhibited by perinatal people. The Internet can be an accessible source of information about perinatal depression; however, the quality of this information remains to be evaluated.

Workplace Adjustments for Autistic Employees: What is 'Reasonable'?

Autistic adults are inadequately supported in the workplace. This study sought a definition of 'reasonable' and explored facilitators and barriers to employers making reasonable adjustments. 98 employers and employees across a UK city completed a survey; 15% identified as being autistic.

Background: Pain is a complex experience that involves sensory-discriminative and cognitive-emotional neuronal processes. It has long been known across cultures that pain can be relieved by mindful breathing (MB). There is a common assumption that MB exerts its analgesic effect through interoception.

Do anxiety websites have the answers people are looking for?

Unlabelled: OBJECTIVES AND METHODS: A wealth of online anxiety information exists but much of it is not evidence-based or well-balanced. This study evaluated anxiety websites (N = 20) on readability, quality, usability, visual design, and content.

Results: Overall, websites were of reasonable quality but only half were considered understandable according to the PEMAT usability scale (70% cutoff value).

Breast adipose regulation of premenopausal breast epithelial phenotype involves interleukin 10.

Epidemiological studies inversely associate BMI with breast cancer risk in premenopausal women, but the pathophysiological linkage remains ill-defined. Despite the documented relevance of the 'local' environment to breast cancer progression and the well-accepted differences in transcriptome and metabolic properties of anatomically distinct fat depots, specific breast adipose contributions to the proliferative potential of non-diseased breast glandular compartment are not fully understood. To address early breast cancer causation in the context of obesity status, we compared the cellular and molecular phenotypes of breast adipose and matched breast glandular tissue from premenopausal non-obese (mean BMI = 27 kg/m2) and obese (mean BMI = 44 kg/m2) women.

However, no study has detailed the evolution of symptoms in the first month of illness.At our institution, we conducted remote (telephone and video) visits for all adult outpatients diagnosed with COVID-19 within 24 h of a positive nasopharyngeal polymerase chain test for SARS-CoV-2.

A near miss: subclinical saddle pulmonary embolism diagnosed by handheld ultrasound.

Introduction: Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a life-threatening condition characterized by occlusive disease of the pulmonary vasculature. Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) of right ventricular strain patterns have high specificity and low sensitivity for diagnosis. Here, we describe a patient with a saddle PE and low pre-test probability who was diagnosed primarily by handheld POCUS.

Risk of Fractures and Other Injuries in Children Treated with Antiseizure Medications for Epilepsy.

This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of fractures and non-fracture injuries, including associated risk factors, in children with epilepsy prescribed antiseizure medications (ASM). A controlled, cross-sectional study was conducted in a hospital outpatient setting, comparing children with epilepsy prescribed ASMs with their non-epileptic siblings. Information was collected by questionnaire included history of fractures, non-fracture injuries and epilepsy, comorbidities and ASM use.
