bacteria is a component of normal intestinal microflora of humans and animals, but can also be found in hospital settings causing urinary tract infections and sepsis. The problem of treating such infections is complicated by multidrug-resistant isolates producing extended spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL), and the number of ESBL-carrying strains has significantly increased recently. This study presents a detailed analysis of 12 multidrug-resistant isolates obtained from the wounds of different patients in one surgical department of a multidisciplinary hospital in Moscow, Russia, using the short- and long-read whole genome sequencing.

Recent studies have discovered that aryl-substituted pyrido[2,1-a]isoquinolines have the potential to be highly active DPP IV inhibitors. In previous studies, we reported a novel synthetic approach for the construction of their sulfur-containing bioisosteric [1,4]thiazino[3,4-a]isoquinolines analogues, incorporating an additional aryl substituent. The present study aims to investigate the DPP IV inhibitory activity and cytotoxicity of the synthesized molecules by in vitro assay.

The mechanisms of these transformations may vary for different bacterial species and have so far not yet been clarified in detail. Bacteria of the genus , including ubiquitous phytostimulating rhizobacteria, are widely studied and have potential for agricultural biotechnology and bioremediation of excessively seleniferous soils, as they are able to reduce selenite ions.

The idea that these cytokines might be developed as new therapies emerged soon after their discovery. While enthusiasm for this approach to cancer therapy has waxed and waned over the ensuing decades, recent advances in cancer immunotherapy and our improved understanding of the tumor immune environment have led to a resurgence of interest in this unique class of biologic drug.

Protein-drug interactions are crucial for understanding drug delivery and cell functions. Jacalin is a suitable molecule for such targeting, as it specifically recognizes the tumor-associated Thomsen-Friedenreich (TF) antigen that is expressed on the glycosylated proteins in cancer cells. The present paper describes the interaction of curcumin and jacalin, a possible carrier molecule for the delivery of antitumor drugs due to its ability to recognize tumor cells.

Platinum (II) β-diketonates were obtained by grinding excess sodium trifluoroacetylacetonate Na(tfac) or hexafluoroacetylacetonate Na(hfac) in a vibration ball mill, followed by subsequent heating of the resulting mixture. The reactions occur under much milder conditions (at about 170 °C) compared to similar reactions of PtCl or KPtCl (at about 240 °C).

Introduction: The tuberculin skin test has significant limitations for use in individuals vaccinated with BCG. The presence in the genome of of the RDI region, which is absent in the genome of Mycobacterium bovis BCG and most non-tuberculous mycobacteria, made it possible to develop new skin tests, which include a skin test with a recombinant tuberculosis allergen [RTA (Diaskintest®, JSC Generium, Russia)]. Diaskintest has shown high diagnostic performance in clinical trials and in conditions of high prevalence of tuberculosis infection.

In the recent decade, the World Health Organization (WHO) noticed a critically increasing rate of carbapenem-resistant occurrence in hospitals. The situation with extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) producing bacteria further worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic, due to an increasing number of patients in intensive care units (ICU) and extensive, while often inappropriate, use of antibiotics including carbapenems.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has already affected all realms of public healthcare and, in particular, has led to increasing use of various antibiotics to treat possible bacterial coinfections even in cases for which such infections were not confirmed clinically. This could lead to an increase in the fraction and severity of multidrug-resistant bacterial isolates in healthcare facilities, especially in intensive care units (ICU). However, detailed epidemiological investigations, possibly including whole genome sequencing (WGS), are required to confirm the increase in antibiotic resistance and changes, if any, in the population and clonal structures of bacterial pathogens.
