Methods: Four hundred sixty-six women ages 20 to 45 years at the time of diagnosis of a stage I to III breast cancer were recruited between January 1998 and July 2002. Patients completed monthly bleeding calendars from the time of study recruitment.
The impact of treatment on subsequent fertility and the safety of childbearing are major complicating factors for young women diagnosed with breast cancer. As national data indicate women are postponing first pregnancy to older ages; therefore, many young patients are seeking clinical guidance regarding the safety of conception and treatment options that may not prevent subsequent pregnancy. Newly developed chemotherapy protocols of brief duration have improved life expectancy enabling some women to consider childbearing.

Aims: To assess the impact of cognitive task solving on respiratory and cardiovascular parameters.
Methods: The ML870B80 Exercise Physiology System was used to record concurrently with EEG, the cardiorespiratory and metabolic functions of subjects during cognitive activity. The Expired Minute Ventilation (VE), Oxygen Consumption (VO2), Carbon Dioxide Production (VCO2) and Average Heart Rate (BPM) were ascertained for four periods: (1) rest or starting period, (2) reference period, (3) cognitive task solving period and (4) recovery period.

Aims: To analyze the event-related desynchronization/synchronization (ERD/ERS) attended with the mental load arising while solving two cognitive tasks. The features of the presented visual stimulus determined the type of cognitive task that should be solved.
Methods: For each experimental task and everybody's subject FFT Analysis module calculated the total power histograms from a fixed frequency band (3-20 Hz or 8-13 Hz) for each 3-second EEG sample with 50 % overlay and all electrodes.

Aims: To judge whether and how the character of the visual stimulus and type of cognitive task affects brain event-related potentials (ERPs).
Methods: ERPs to three types of visual stimuli (white blank oval on a dark background, unfolded cube and net of sixteen small squares) were recorded from nine scalp sites and saved on a computer. Special software was used for off-line analysis of the ERPs.
Unlabelled: Endocrinal products of adipocytes (PPARgamma, A-FABP, E-FABP, leptin, adiponectin and others) modulate insulin tissue sensitivity enabling them to participate in the ethiopathogenesis of diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2T). Persons with DM2T are characterised by typical changes in lipid spectrum (lower HDL-cholesterol and higherTAG) and in the endocrinal function of subcutaneous adipose tissue; adipocytes produce more PPARgamma, A-FABP and E-FABP and less adiponectin.
Aims Of The Study: To measure chosen markers of metabolic syndrome (MS) in serum and in abdominal subcutaneous adipose tissue in healthy persons and patients with DMT2, to determine basic statistical characteristics of investigated parameters and to discus their role in the genesis and progress of the MS.
We utilized liquid chromatography coupled with electrochemical detector (HPLC-ED) for analyzing of silver ions. The optimization of basic chromatographic parameters has been done. The detection limit (3 S/N) obtained were 20 nmol/dm(3).

The paper presents findings of an experiment the participants of which were native Czech speakers (L1 ) possessed of perfect knowledge of English (L2). We assumed that the subjects could process differently each of the three types of English and Czech sentences; the first type represented correct sentences, the other two violated sentences. Violated sentences differed in the precise relationship between the verbs, their preceding noun phrases, and their preceding context.

The present findings show the existence of significant differences in latency and amplitude of some waves of ERPs to three subclasses of nouns or verbs. Latency LP3 of ERPs to action verbs was shorter than latency of the same wave to abstract verbs. In nouns the relation was a similar (manipulable objects versus abstract ones).

The results of the multivariate analysis of variance confirmed statistically significant differences in latency and amplitude of some ERPs waves to nouns and ERPs to verbs. ERPs to nouns differ from ERPs to verbs by a significantly longer latency and greater amplitude of some waves. A comparison of the characteristics of ERPs to nouns and ERPs to verbs separately in males and females produced basically identical results; in females, however, there are much fewer significant differences than in males.

Event-related potentials (ERPs) to word stimuli were registered in 20 twenty-one-year-old students (7 males and 13 females) of the Faculty of Medicine of Palacký University. In an ideal case in the first 800 ms after the onset of stimulus ERP consists of three clear positive and four negative waves. The amplitude of some waves of ERPs shows a high degree of inter-individual variability.

Summary Background Data: SLN biopsy is a new standard of care for axillary lymph node staging in breast cancer. Nevertheless, most validated series of SLN biopsy confirm that the SLN is falsely negative in 5-10% of node-positive cases, and few studies report the rate of axillary local recurrence (LR) for that subset of patients staged by SLN biopsy alone.
Background: This study examined whether the volume of isosulfan blue dye used in sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping in breast cancer is related to the SLN identification rate or to the incidence of allergic reactions.
Methods: From January 2001 to November 2002, 1728 breast cancer patients underwent 1832 SLN mapping procedures with the combined technique of intraparenchymal blue dye and intradermal radioisotope. Details of each procedure and all allergic reactions were prospectively recorded.
