Background: Data on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is paramount for shared and evidence based decision-making. Since an overview of cervical cancer HRQoL tools and their validity appears to be lacking, we performed a systematic review on usage of disease specific HRQoL instruments in cervical cancer patients and their psychometric properties to identify the most suitable cervical cancer specific HRQoL tool.

Methods: We searched Pubmed, EMBASE and PsycINFO from inception up to 18 October 2016 for studies on quality of life in cervical cancer patients.

Purpose: Different protocols are being used worldwide for the cryopreservation of human ovarian tissue for fertility preservation purposes. The efficiency and efficacy of the majority of these protocols has not been extensively evaluated, possibly resulting in sub-optimally cryopreserved ovarian tissue. To address the impact of this issue, we assessed the effects of two clinically successful human ovarian tissue slow-freezing cryopreservation procedures on the quality of the cryopreserved tissue.

Objective: In patients with advanced stage epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) the volume of residual tumor after debulking is known as prognostic factor for survival. We wanted to examine the relationship between postoperative decline in serum CA125 and residual disease after cytoreductive surgery and evaluate perioperative changes in serum CA125 levels as predictor for disease-specific survival.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted of patients with FIGO stage IIb-IV EOC treated with cytoreductive surgery, followed by chemotherapy between 1996 and 2010 in three hospitals in the Southeastern region of the Netherlands.

Objective: To test the ability of three prospectively developed computed tomography (CT) models to predict incomplete primary debulking surgery in patients with advanced (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stages III-IV) ovarian cancer.

Methods: Three prediction models to predict incomplete surgery (any tumor residual >1cm in diameter) previously published by Ferrandina (models A and B) and by Gerestein were applied to a validation cohort consisting of 151 patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer. All patients were treated with primary debulking surgery in the Eastern part of the Netherlands between 2000 and 2009 and data were retrospectively collected.

Objective: Recent reviews on the sentinel lymph node (SLN) procedure in cervical cancer have shown that bilateral SLN detection and ultra staging are safe and superior options compared to a unilateral detection, frozen section and H&E analysis. So far, nobody identified a subgroup of patients in whom a SLN procedure may replace pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND).

Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, CINAHL and Cochrane from inception up to November 26, 2014.

Objective: This study was performed to determine whether satellite LVSI in women with early stage cervical carcinoma is an independent prognostic factor for recurrence and survival.

Methods: A total of 210 eligible patients with FIGO stages IA2 and IB1 cervical carcinoma, who underwent radical hysterectomy or radical trachelectomy with pelvic lymphadenectomy between January 2000 and December 2012, were included. Variables studied included age, histology type, differentiation grade, tumor size (TS), depth of invasion (DI), lymph node metastasis (LNM), conjoined lymphovascular space invasion (LVSI) and satellite LVSI.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to validate the performance of two prediction models, the AGO score and the Tian model, of complete secondary cytoreductive surgery (SCS) in patients with recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer. The predictive value of both models for survival controlled for the outcome of SCS was analyzed and known predictive factors for complete SCS were tested.

Methods: A population-based database with 408 patients, who underwent SCS between 2000 and 2013 in 38 Dutch hospitals, was used.

The identification of growth and differentiation pathways that are responsible for the proliferation and survival of cancer stem cells (CSCs) has opened avenues for the discovery of novel therapeutic targets. In the initial phase of an anticancer immune response, T cells specific for tumor-associated antigens develop in patients and, at least under selected circumstances, are able to eliminate malignant cells. However, it remains unknown whether CSC-specific T cells are also operational.

Objective: The Risk of Malignancy Index (RMI) is a simple scoring system to standardize and improve the preoperative evaluation of adnexal masses. Since 1990, three versions of the RMI have been validated in different clinical studies. Recently, a fourth version of the RMI (RMI-4) was introduced that includes tumor size as an additional parameter.

Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is an immunogenic tumour and exploits many suppressive ways to escape immune eradication. EOC is known to spread primarily by tumour cell implantations in peritoneal cavity. Therefore, ascites may be an ideal fluid compartment to unravel the immune status of the peritoneal cavity.

Detoxification enzymes, especially glutathione S-transferase P1-1 (GSTP1-1), have been implicated in resistance to platinum-based chemotherapy. We studied GSTP1-1 levels in ovarian cyst fluid (oCF), obtained during surgery before chemotherapy, of patients with epithelial ovarian cancer and clinical outcomes were correlated. GSTP1-1 was determined by ELISA in oCF of 56 patients with epithelial ovarian cancer and 109 noncancer controls (21 borderline and 88 benign ovarian tumors).

Background/aims: Probably no single gene is responsible for pre-eclampsia, but the disease merely is the result of polymorphisms in several genes in association with environmental factors. We therefore studied the simultaneous occurrence of several genetic polymorphisms in biotransformation enzymes in women who had developed pre- eclampsia, either with or without the HELLP syndrome, in comparison with healthy controls.

Methods: The results of two previous studies on genetic polymorphisms in glutathione S-transferases P1, M1 and T1, epoxide hydrolase (EPHX) and cytochrome P4501A1 (CYP1A1) in 167 women with a history of pre-eclampsia and in 110 controls were combined.
