The Warburg effect, which describes the fermentation of glucose to lactate even in the presence of oxygen, is ubiquitous in proliferative mammalian cells, including cancer cells, but poses challenges for biopharmaceutical production as lactate accumulation inhibits cell growth and protein production. Previous efforts to eliminate lactate production in cells for bioprocessing have failed as lactate dehydrogenase is essential for cell growth. Here, we effectively eliminate lactate production in Chinese hamster ovary and in the human embryonic kidney cell line HEK293 by simultaneous knockout of lactate dehydrogenases and pyruvate dehydrogenase kinases, thereby removing a negative feedback loop that typically inhibits pyruvate conversion to acetyl-CoA.

is a zoonotic parasite, which historically has been of large concern for public health in Europe. Consequently, testing of all pigs for has been mandatory in many European countries, even though is almost exclusively found in outdoor or backyard production. The idea therefore emerged that auditing for biosecurity should replace testing in indoor production.

The Warburg effect is ubiquitous in proliferative mammalian cells, including cancer cells, but poses challenges for biopharmaceutical production, as lactate accumulation inhibits cell growth and protein production. Previous efforts to eliminate lactate production via knockout have failed in mammalian bioprocessing since lactate dehydrogenase has proven essential. However, here we eliminated the Warburg effect in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) and HEK293 cells by simultaneously knocking out lactate dehydrogenase and regulators involved in a negative feedback loop that typically inhibits pyruvate conversion to acetyl-CoA.

Owing to their surface biochemistry, which reflects the parent cell membrane, these nanoscale biologics feature low immunogenicity, tunable tissue tropism, and the ability to carry a variety of payloads across biological barriers. The heterogeneity of exosomes' size and composition, however, makes their purification challenging.

Also, among the acquired features was an enlargement of the rostral end of the soft palate into an oral plug that occludes the opening between the oral cavity and pharynx and prevents water incursion into the pharynx during the engulfment phase of a feeding lunge. During this engulfment phase of a lunge, the volume of water entering the oral cavity can exceed the volume of the whale itself.

Design: An explorative qualitative study was conducted with inspiration from Ricoeur's hermeneutic phenomenological theory of interpretation.
Methods: Three focus group interviews were carried out with participants representing 5 anesthesiology departments from 3 hospitals in Denmark (a total of 14 participants).
During the COVID-19 pandemic, our institution adopted telemedicine for voice therapy (VT) as an alternative to in-person sessions, which has been integrated into our routine practice following the pandemic. This study aims to explore factors influencing completion rates among the 2 methods. A retrospective chart review at a single tertiary care institution between 2019 and 2021 was conducted.

This review gives an overview of this examination modality. The objective is to rapidly address predefined dichotomised questions about the presence of an abdominal aortic aneurysm, gallstones, cholecystitis, hydronephrosis, urinary retention, free intraperitoneal fluid, and small bowel obstruction.

However, barriers to conveying information about genetic disorders within families result in low uptake of genetic testing. Provider-mediated interventions may increase uptake but raise legal and ethical concerns.

Edible insects represent a great alternative protein source but food neophobia remains the main barrier to consumption. However, the incorporation of insects as protein-rich ingredients, such as protein concentrates, could increase acceptance. In this study, two methods, isoelectric precipitation and ultrafiltration-diafiltration, were applied to produce mealworm protein concentrates, which were compared in terms of composition, protein structure and techno-functional properties.

However, HEAs are typically cast alloys, which may suffer from large as-cast grains and entrapped porosity, allowing for opportunities to further refine the microstructure in a non-melting near-net shape solid-state additive manufacturing process, additive friction stir deposition (AFSD). The present research compares the microstructure and mechanical behavior of the as-deposited AFSD AlCoCrFeNi to the cast heat-treated properties to assess its viability for structural applications for the first time.

Many significant discoveries have been made lately in hydrogen-based economy-related research where these alloys may be utilized in all of its key sectors: water electrolysis, hydrogen storage, and fuel cell applications. Despite the rapid development of MEAs and HEAs with the ability to reversibly absorb hydrogen, the research is limited to transition-metal-based alloys that crystallize in body-centered cubic solid solution or Laves phase structures.

There is a need for longitudinal studies aimed at identifying circulating biomarkers of airflow limitation across different stages of life.
Objectives: This study sought to identify a signature of serum proteins associated with airflow limitation and evaluate their relation to lung function longitudinally in adults and children.
Cannabidiol (CBD) products have been proposed to exert stress- and anxiety-relieving effects in animals. Despite the increasing popularity of CBD for veterinary use, the available research detailing the effects of CBD in horses is limited. The aim of this study (part 1 of 2) was to analyze stress parameters via behavioral observations and heart rate monitoring in healthy horses following single oral administration of a CBD containing paste in different doses.

Commonly, those investigations are a joint effort undertaken by different laboratories and institutes. To analyze the extent of variability introduced by differing wet-lab procedures on the quality of the sequence data we conducted an interlaboratory study, involving four bacterial pathogens, which account for the majority of food-related bacterial infections: spp.

Infants ≤ 25 days of age, who were exclusively formula-fed, were randomised to receive eHF or CF for at least three months up to 120 days of age. An exclusively breastfed reference group (BF) was included for descriptive comparison.

Temporal variation in the absorption, transport, and storage of elements between different tissues can, however, complicate the assessment of element-health relationships. Here, we measured concentrations of selected essential (copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), selenium (Se)) and non-essential (arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb)) trace elements within blood, liver, kidney, and hair of fallow deer (Dama dama; N=20) and red deer (Cervus elaphus; N=21).
